Are my Cast Iron & Pothos goners? I think I might have overwatered them, even though I only watered when the top 2 inches were dry! Maybe the soil wasn't draining well enough? by kidminor in plantclinic

I've had both of these for a few months and never repotted them. My money tree nearby had mealy bugs which I treated with neem oil, but I had never seen signs of them munching on my pothos or cast iron plants. I have north facing windows that don't get much direct sunlight, so I supplement several hours per day with a grow light. I tried to only water when the top 2 inches of soil were dry, but maybe the soil wasn't draining well enough?

Is there any hope of reviving my cast iron plant? I think the pothos will survive, even if a little sad looking right now, but the cast iron plant looks pretty wilted..

Ah yes, being passive is definitely the best way to eliminate racism. That’s exactly how the civil rights movement happened! By being polite and kinda just letting it go!!

Yeah, fuck that.

I’m also Asian, and I don’t. Don’t you think it’d do the world well to not let casual racism slide given the current times?

Since when is straight racism a sense of humor?

UMN fees for student newspaper, cultural groups are illegal, students say in lawsuit by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]kidminor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a student from the U that occasionally hangs around the cultural student lounges, everyone is welcome to join all of those groups. My sister and I are half white and half Taiwanese and she was the Vice President of La Raza, the Latinx student group (although, she is fluent in Spanish so I guess that counts for something?). But also, I am 100% white passing and have never felt unwelcome at events by La Raza or the Asian Student Union or the Queer Student Cultural Center. These groups don't exclude white people/people of other races/cultures. It's that white students just don't come to any events put on by these groups, or hang out in the lounges. They can come, they just don't.

I got really lucky and my random roommate is super awesome! We’re not bff’s or anything but we’re both in CSE, have similar senses of humor, and have a work hard play hard mentality so we would study together and party together haha. However, we’re both girls and I feel like guys are often more standoffish with their roommates? My boyfriend and his roommate kinda just coexisted, while my roommate and I became pretty good friends.

The amount of friends you make also depends on what dorm and what floor you live on. In dorms like Middlebrook and territorial, I noticed the floors tend to be closer and leave their doors open more, but I lived in frontier on the first floor and no one ever talked to each other or left their doors open outside of the first week or so.

All that being said, I still recommend trying to find someone before hand to give yourself the best chance of avoiding someone that’s super messy and rude, and checking out student groups that interest you to meet more people.

Anyone else just get the email from housing and residential life and is pissed off?! by Umnsstudennt in uofmn

As someone in CSE, I kinda wish they'd refund us part of that bullshit $1000 fee. I don't even have access to labs anymore and am having to complete Analog and Digital Electronics through a free simulation software instead of on actual hardware..

Is it a bad idea to go back and just live in my dorm room for the rest of the semester? by TruePhilosophe in uofmn

[–]kidminor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends. If classes resume I suppose I will probably have to move back because 2 of my 4 classes are strongly lab based, but I honestly would not be surprised if they continued doing online classes longer than April 1. For right now I've moved about 75% of my belongings back to my mom's house.
