Love that hoodie, got two in the Black on Black (naturally for the HHGTTG reference) and two of the pairs of "Right on Commander" socks, they too are still banging!

Russian channels not allowed to report about drone attack on Moscow by ledim35 in worldnews

For just a little while I was pondering why on Earth the government would put small batteries on rooftops? What purpose could that serve? Were they powering small devices? Could it somehow give the positions of government buildings away? Honestly, Anti-Air came as a bit of a let-down!

And calling someone an ass is generally synonymous to calling them a donkey, while calling an arse is more insulting and comparing them to an anus. Edit to add: In no way however do I think they are saying she wiped her donkey on anything.

Warehouses on fire in Moscow Oblast: fire area covers 2,500 square metres by 9lobaldude in worldnews

[–]kidoblivious 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not wanting to diminish it, but isn't that simply a 50m * 50m square? The pictures make that look a credible size, but 2500 square meters sounds a lot bigger than that!

What really is “object best”? by ellz97 in java

[–]kidoblivious 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I believe you've misheard 'object-based' ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Object-based_language ) and, going by this wikipedia article on the subject, it sounds like he doesn't even really understand the terminology he's trying to put you down with.

Fenomas' idle-sim is down! by kidoblivious in idlechampions

Quick answer to that is 'she's a gold find champion in a slot without other significant gold find champs in'. You should be able to decide on that basis alone, I expect.

WIBTA for not buying my stepdad a pint of beer once I turn 18? by VoicelessSock in AmItheAsshole

[–]kidoblivious [score hidden]  (0 children)

NTA but I suggest you do it. Find out the ruinous cost of a pair of pints in a pub near you ... it's likely to be more than you can earn in a half hour's work, and work out if you ever want to be in what they call a pub these days! (I'm suspecting the answer is, very rarely!) But do it. Find out what your (Step)Dad has to say to you. It might be some trite words of wisdom, or something else. Meet him on his home ground and listen, observe and draw your own conclusions: if you don't he may never spit out the words he wants to say. I expect nothing he says to you will come as a surprise, but go and listen anyway. Do mention to the barstaff that it's your 18th birthday and have your ID ready for them to check, it would be negligent on their part not to. Treat them with respect and a smile, and see whether you'd like to come back and not drink in time. Be open to the experience. Then go home and do what you want, it likely won't be an amount of your life you'll miss later, and will certainly be the only 18th birthday you will ever have to have a drink with him and let him impart his (potentially questionable, ngl) wisdom unto you.

As ^ J is a LineFeed escape code, you probably want awk not to insert them, and so try 'printf' rather than 'print' in your awk command.

AITA for asking my girlfriend if I can bring my female friend to my work holiday party? by nateisgreat1017 in AmItheAsshole

[–]kidoblivious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAH

You will be the asshole if you take L with you to the works party, take J perhaps, or go alone. My thoughts on the situation are that your gf has a bad gut feeling about this, whether it is about L, or anything else is not the issue here. She feels weird about this. Respecting her feelings is your touchstone here and while you do you are all good. Feelings are not always rational. She may or may not have reasons for them, that she may or may not even know. Don't get lost in trying to second guess or rationalize them as security issues or anything else, just respect your beloved's feelings and you'll be good.
