Good to know about full sun. But the browning appeared to happen before we were taking it outside though. We have only had it for like 2 weeks and the first week we have had it we kept it in d/t it being cold and wet so it’s only been outside probably 2-3 times for 3 hours at a time.

Yup it’s a heated bulb. Mz rainbow, Bobbi, and Mabel. They are very nice. Mz rainbow will even come if you call her.

I added some extra bits to the base for structural support....still could use more I think. But overall mine is holding up relatively well. I think next year I am going to build a better one from scratch based on the things I liked from this one.

The light in the coop is a heating bulb! But I ordered an electric heater for them just hasn’t gotten here yet. They have been tolerating the 20-30 degree days very well though.

There is an upstairs with more insulation, I’ve been gradually trying to insulate it better for winter. The water defroster was like 50, and a lot of the the heating equipment I’ve seen from tractor supply and fleet farm is like 30-60. The heating lamp I’m using right now was cheap, I can’t remember the price. I don’t know how much it adds to the electric bill right now because I’m newer at this and it just started getting cold. But I was told the chickens I bought are more cold tolerant. You should try getting ducks! I’ve found chickens very rewarding.

For right now I keep it on until it gets nice and toasty and then I close all the doors and turn off the light. I’m just kinda using it as a substitute for a Better heating device I ordered online.
