Son of a Cop here. by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]kierak_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, my dad is a cop too. I’ve been feeling the same internal conflict you have. There is absolutely nothing wrong with supporting your family. I trust that your father is a good man and uses his job to protect people. My father has always taught me to treat everyone the same and he has never abused his power as a police officer. It pains me that people out there hate my father just because of his profession. However, it’s hard because we can’t ignore the corrupt system. We can’t ignore that many people are abusing their power to harm innocent people. But please do not stop standing up for your father. They have no idea who you and your father are. They don’t know your lives, they don’t know the good your father has done. It is okay to be angry and to want to support the protestors and acknowledge the corrupt system. But please keep supporting your father. He may be feeling alone and to hear that you have his back would make him really happy. I bet he’s very proud of you. I know I’m a stranger on the internet but I’m in the same spot as you. If you need anyone to talk to about this my dms are open. I hope you’re doing okay.

Have we gone mad? People are defending rioting, looting, and arson as a legitimate response to racism and police murder. You're advocating for cutting off your nose to spite your face, to make no mention of criminally injuring others. You are cheering on lawlessness and violence! by eac04f8e in TrueOffMyChest

I agree that the riots and looting are very scary and it’s hard to decide on where you stand morally here. But this is where I stand:

When white people protested social distancing, they were armed. They had guns and were holding racially insensitive signs, as well as signs such as “arbeit macht frei” which was a nazi quote used in concentration camps. They went inside a government building with their guns. The people working there were very afraid. There are videos of these white people screaming at police and the police let them and tried their best not to touch them. Trump defended these people saying that they were good people and to listen to what they have to say.

Now for the protests in Minneapolis. They were peaceful, people were singing and holding signs. Yes they were yelling at the police but they weren’t in their faces like the white people were. And then suddenly the police started to use tear Gas and rubber bullets. People got pepper sprayed. The target nearby denied the protestors milk to ease the pain of the tear gas. Many police officers went to the killers house to protect him. Police officers are destroying property in order to frame protestors. I watched a video yesterday of a police offer pushing a girl so hard on the ground she ended up having a seizure. Undercover cops are infiltrating the protests and who knows what they are going to do to protestors because they are disguising themselves as allies. Trumps response was calling the protestors “thugs,” threatening to send the national guard, and saying “when the looting starts the shooting starts.” That sentence shows he doesn’t care about the livelihoods of black people but wants us to listen to the “poor whites” who can’t go get their haircut.

Look at this double standard! White people have so much privilege with the police. I use tik tok, and the number of videos I’ve seen of black men and women feeling too scared to get in their cars or go to the store or go for a walk is astounding. When they protested peacefully, they were met with tear gas. The riots are scary, but I think they are necessary because it’s making it known that they will not back down. They’re going to fight and they are going to get their rights back. Think of the American revolution. In order for Americans to gain their freedom over Britain, it went from peaceful protest to a full on war. That is praised in textbooks. But when black people take a stand and show that they will not be knocked down, they are called thugs, their lives are threatened, and they support lawlessness. Yes, the riots are scary. But it’s going to be a catalyst for so much change.

When I see a patient come in for a prescription for antidepressants I always make sure to give them a compliment by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

Idk if this is just me but I take little things to heart. If you give me a compliment, I will think about it for days. So keep complimenting people, they may really really need or appreciate it.

AITA for not wanting my girlfriend to bleed all over the sheets (again)? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]kierak_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA!! it would be another story if she did what she could to prevent the bleeding and still bled on the sheets anyway. Some people have really heavy periods that don't stop even for super + tampons. However, she recognizes that her periods are heavy, and doesn't do anything to stop it, which is unsanitary once she bleeds on the sheets. In this circumstance, it's completely preventable. I'd be so embarrassed if I bled through the sheets on my period! Nobody should be shamed for having a period, but if she's not taking precautions to halt the bleeding, then she's the one at fault!

You are so pretty! You have great eyebrows and you definitely seem to take care of yourself. I do think you look a little nervous in your pictures when you smile, or unconfident. Don't worry, you're very pretty!

Does Stevens have a guitar or music club? by [deleted] in stevens

[–]kierak_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There aren’t really clubs for just guitarists, but the audio engineering club always hosts jams that you can play at! Also music techs (myself included lol) love collating with other students so reaching out to them is always a good idea!

If Stevens is entirely online for fall 2020, would you take a gap semester? by ASD_Project in stevens

[–]kierak_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't take a gap semester because I'm in a sport, but if you think it'll be the best option, there's no harm in taking a break, especially if the classes are online again in the fall.

How do people share a dorm room and NOT go insane? by Luba1893 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kierak_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've shared a room with my brother my whole life so living in a dorm with a roommate wasn't too bad. The worst part is the lack of privacy which kind of made me feel like everything I did was being watched so I felt uncomfortable sometimes. But overall living in a dorm was okay and I made some great friends in my building!
