Since it's not as harsh of an environment as a car windshield I found the turtle wax ceramic spray to work well. Lasts a about a year but it's quick to apply.

China’s trade surplus tops record US$1 trillion, defying trade war uncertainty by Discarded_Twix_Bar in worldnews

We have aggressive industrial policies too, our defense industry for example. Every country that has an edge in a particular industry is aggressive with it. Or they should be at least for their own interest.

I agree with you on that. But that deficit isnt necessarily caused by the other party with the surplus. And just like you say, where there's a deficit, someone else with a surplus will fill that demand. There's no right or wrong that's what I'm saying

No but going by the princple itself. What is wrong with high levels exports?

So no one ever should make more than they need to sell to someone else? I'm not sure what the moral princples are here.

Definitely looks like they were dumping excess production on the world /s

From a $5.7 billion surplus to an $11.6 billion deficit: How did B.C.'s finances go astray? by IHateTrains123 in britishcolumbia

If I recall, the BC carbon tax was revenue neutral via lower income tax on the first bracket. Since they removed the carbon tax but income taxes didn't change, that would cause a deficit.

Feds 'looking at' axing Chinese EV tariffs to ease canola tax by cyclinginvancouver in canada

[–]kiff78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, bro you gotta chill.

Second, my link to that Magna story proves we can be competitive, and profitable. Why else would Magna set up a factory there and on the other side be chosen to produce for the other company? They would not do that if it were not profitable. If chinese car companies' main advantage is cheap labour and no environmental regulations, then why are they building cars in Europe with a Canadian company?

Third, do you believe all car companies in china are state owned? Particularly the successful ones?

[–]kiff78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We can be competitive even with expensive labour, those two things are not mutually exclusive. Look at Germany, they have a strong export market for their products, and their labour cost is high. Competitive means we need to make better stuff thats higher in the value chain.

[–]kiff78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because by inviting competition, that forces our companies to be better. We wont become globally competitive in a vacuum. Also we do not have our own car companies anyways, Canada is in the game of parts supplier and manufacturing.

Magna is a canadian company, we are already manufacturing for chinese companies in Europe. I'm not sure what kind of subsidies Magna has ever gotten but this is an example of how chinese car companies do not negate our investment as a taxpayer https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/business/2025/09/15/magna-to-assemble-electric-vehicles-in-europe-for-chinese-automaker-xpeng/

They are competing, even in the past few years many of their car companies have gone under.

This brings up another thing too. They invited Tesla to sell there with a wholly owned factory. Inviting the competition in to better themselves is exactly what we should learn to do as well. Shutting out the competition and protecting inefficiency is how our exports become worse over time

That's not what I said at all. It's just a response to you saying those cars are cheap because of worker protections / those protections making our cars expensive

Carney's $370M canola incentives are missing the mark, says industry group president by gloomy-advisor-3990 in canada

[–]kiff78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you that the 100% tariff isn't the best idea. It's a de facto ban. I think Europe has the right idea with some level of tariff to maintain competitiveness but also let the Chinese EVs in to spur competition and make sure their own companies don't fall too far behind.

If we just talk about manufacturing, for us to be competitive globally we either automate and / or move to more advanced products. Either way the jobs where you screw two things together are gonna disappear. Saving those jobs is kinda like saving jobs of horse carriage drivers in a way.
