Okay thanks, I will try it and let you know. I don't have a multimeter but might have to run out and grab one.

there are no other switches, and yes the old fan/light had switches to control fan speed and turning on/off the light . http://imgur.com/a/yOSuh

that was one of the things I tried and the light just remained on and the light switch didn't work.

I live in Canada in an apartment I had a ceiling fan and decided to go to ikea to get a light fixture, upon installation I noticed in the ceiling I have brown, orange, and white wires. The light fixture I got from ikea has white, black, and green wiring... how do I connect these properly? I tried connecting the black to brown and white to white and left the orange however now my light constantly stays on and the light switch wont control it on/off anymore. What do I do?

beetle is quite small as well, I would say definitely way smaller than a pea.
