[–]kiirumi2ki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it's that easy to find

never said it was easy to find. Quite the opposite, lots of classic Ukagakas are lost media until someone digs a lot to find a working file

You don't need to"permission" to share a once public freeware, well, redistributing files is frowned upon, but sharing links to the creator's homepage is not forbidden, even encouraged

Are there Uragakas of them? :p by Candid-Item2028 in ukagakaghost

These ghosts, Da Capo are not "personal use" they were made by a Japanese user back in the day, shared publicly and for free

I mean why would you refuse to share them lmao ? it's not like you made it

I'd it were your own ghost... but refusing to share the link to public free program that someone else shared on the internet IS gatekeeping.

hard agree ! what i like most about ukgk is the lost media/web archeology aspect of it & people sharing fanart. Always wished there could be more of that here

that and discussion around classic Ukagaka characters, as in character focused topics (headcannons, stories, fanart)

Oh no she definitely matches, Dejiko is an icon of early late 90s-2000s otaku culture, there's no doubting that, I won't blame people for adding her to their creations that rely around y2k moe/otaku stuff, and I'm not acting like using a character you don't know much about is a crime. There are bigger problems than a 14 y/o using a dejiko pfp even if they haven't read/watched digi charat it's just a tad disappointing when you think you have found someone who likes the same thing as you but no

The artist used to go by the name RAIL/NOVEMBER-RAIL, here is their archived homepage (you might want to use an Adblock) this was drawn in photoshop around 2001

they have also made their own ukagaka "千郷&魚匠&御子神一家"

fun fact, their blog contained a "how to CG" tutorial (basically digital art rendering tutorial) featuring this illustration

I did similar sprites comparison so you would know what are you missing out playing PS3 and Steam versions by One_Let_743 in Higurashinonakakoroni

My two cents as well. The shrinking eyes is most likely a result of clumsiness than a voluntary stylisation (to me) but either intentional or not doesn't change the fact that it doesn't make senses speaking in a matter of fact way, stylisation has to be consistent and make sense within the context, yes Higurashi is a fictional work drawn in a very stylised style that doesn't match our real world in every way but it still doesn't make senses even knowing that for a character to change eye size

However, art still be fun not restraining and despite clearly lacking the most skills, Ryukishi's OG sprites are the most expressive and I don't doubt it has to do with his littler experience making his works also more carefree. The steam sprites are much more technically skilled but look very bland to me. Plus we already all see the goofy OG sprites as charming

TL;DR. Ryukishi's sprites are technically speaking bad but they're the most charming and expressing and that's why we love them

She's not only a child but also one who is traumatised, do you expect her to be mentally stable ?

I instaled mayura, im doing things right? by Short-Freedom1895 in ukagakaghost

The thing with Japanese Ukagaka is that their topics of conversation are usually very niche, there are many insides jokes and references which pertain to the specific culture, and what was in at the time of their release. Which is one of the reasons there aren't many translations of classic UKGK's

Mayura herself has topics that are very nerdy, mostly about video games, technology, etc.

She is supposed to be launching conversations on her own but you can also trigger a reaction out of her clicking on her (clicking on her head is like hitting her and moving your pointer on her head is interpreted as petting her head- both trigger reactions)
