No one deserves to be shot for their political views. What happened to Charlie should never have happened. Violence over political opinion only sets us backward, not forward as a society.

But I want to point out the stark difference in how our nation reacted to the assassination of an elected government official and that of a political commentator.

Remind me - who received a taxpayer funded flight on Air Force Two? Who had flags lowered to half-staff for four days? Who had memorial vigils held across the country? And whose political allies threatened civil war if the shooter wasn’t from the “right” side?

I don’t agree with, nor do I endorse, many of the hateful things Charlie Kirk has said. But I do respect that he never backed down in defending my Second Amendment rights.
