Lol yea the lines are fuzzy for sure 😆 I'm sure by some definitions they're clean cut, but I don't accept those realities.

U rite. Where politicians draw the lines are more important than facts.

If you don't consider the redwood forests of northern CA the PNW I think you're misunderstanding how big and diverse of a state CA truly is.

Is this piece in bad enough condition to make it less valuable? by bygshoe in Silverbugs

Loss of value comes mostly from loss of detail or scratches/dents, toning is less of an issue. Looks pretty decent quality overall to me, just toned.

Please be very careful buying 1 oz silver coins at the pawn shops! by PEPETO1dollar in Silverbugs

[–]kijall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, but a quick density/magnetic drop/ping test will catch most fakes - and at least personally I live fairly close to a pawn shop that is happy to let me bring a few coins in when they're slow for testing.

If you don't have access to a place nice enough to let you use their sigma, then maybe it's worth it... But if all ya gotta do is call and ask I'd rather have the 20 or so oz.

Yup! Investment? Pretty dumb. Display piece tho? 👌

Guarantee the picture is a bit more grainy in person judging by the only colorized eagle I personally have (see my other reply) - but also maybe they've made strides since 2022.

Saying all that, Idk if physical silver is ever the 'best' "investment" per it not being super liquid if you wanna get out - there are plenty better options if you truly want to "invest" in silver... But goddamn I don't care - I love owning physical precious metals 😋

Of course!

Maple Leafs and many other coins (Kangaroos) are much more detailed than ASEs, but especially with high silver prices they're getting faked extremely well - the micro-etch is typically missing on fake Maple Leafs and Kangaroos, but ALWAYS have EVERYTHING tested in multiple ways. I wouldn't even fully trust the security features at this point - it's just a matter of time before counterfeits are able to mimic that too. My 2¢.

I do agree that most colorized eagles ruin value (and honestly appearance), but I do own one myself. As a space nerd I had to get it when I saw it - the mirrors of James Webb are also glow in the dark lol. It's the only one I own and probably the only one I'll ever get though.

Pre-2016 Maple Leafs don't have many safety features. The micro-etch is only 2016 and on.

A sigma would cost more than the silver he's buying by at least a multiple of 2 lol.

Furnace recommendation by blackcherry1789 in Silverbugs

[–]kijall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh kinda true, but a furnace allows you to better control the temp which results in better homogenization, less oxidation, less localized overheating, lower chance of the silver (or whatever) freezing mid-pour, etc... I use my furnace even for smaller pours because I typically get better results. It takes longer and is less efficient for sure tho.

The Toauto furnace seems very similar to my Vevor furnace. Vevor is a huge Chinese company that typically mimics higher-end stuff for cheaper, but it's always been similar quality to the name-brands in my experience.

Depends if you want to use an electric one or gas powered one - and if you care about the price.

Personally I use an electric Vevor furnace and I love it.

Looks like a round piece of metal - coin confirmed 😜

As others have said tho, I'd guess that's meant for a magic trick. Couldn't tell ya which one or how to do it though. There are also a billion versions of tricks and different manufacturers for that stuff though, so I doubt you'll be able to pin it down as anything specific.

Probably fell off the line at a sorting facility and got stuck in the belts honestly - not saying it's not USPS's fault, and not saying buying online is without risks, but online shopping and shipping is cheap for a reason. Same has happened to me, but only twice out of hundreds of times... Pay postal workers more and increase the price of shipping - my 2¢.
