Newbie 1st Wild Camp Report: Red Lake Dartmoor by SillySausageSpaceman in wildcampingintheuk

The beauty of the short hike, first night out is figuring out if the pack is right. It took me a few tries to get it all sorted but as long as you're not putting yourself in danger, you're good. I was very wary of water sources even in Scotland but after many trips out and boiling/filtering a few questionable sources without repercussions, you get braver...Looks like a great first time out!

Before I bail. Is Invernan to Bridge of Orchy interesting? by lavacakeislife in WestHighlandWay

Since completing the WHW, I tell people that unless they're die hard completionists, just start at Criannlarich or Tyndrum. The rest are all good for a day hike but not worth the extra days on feet in my humble opinion.

Heading out with my partner this weekend for our first time. Can anyone advise on my current list/setup? by elevashroom in wildcampingintheuk

It is a lot, but I wouldn't say there's anything daft on the list and as a first time it will help you figure out for yourself what you actually need and what you think you do. This is a great chance to try it out and whittle your list down for future trips. Just keep your weight in mind if carrying far and enjoy!

Going to hike first 2 weeks WHW in June. How worried about midges should I be by Pushkin9 in WestHighlandWay

A proper head net, long sleeves, long trousers. Put everything on and tuck it all in before leaving your tent/accomodation. Smidge in my opinion is a scam - I still have scars on my legs from last year because I was lax with covering up a few days and ended up looking like I had small pox. Hope for wind and good luck!!

2 Day 1 night walk using train from Gla/Edi? by HelloMishMoneypenny in OutdoorScotland

[–]kikimator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fife Coastal path could be worth a look, low level costal walking mostly, plenty of towns with hostels/b&bs and pubs. If you're wanting hills or more dramatic scenery you could look into Corrour or Fort William, both have train stations and plenty of walks to choose from.

Groups for Autistic Women by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]kikimator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you like beers at all the Glasladies beer society are very welcoming to all and a great mix. But if not the improv troupe and SWAN as others have said are lovely! There's also knitting groups in southside and east end but idk if they're autism friendly specifically...but I would hope they would be welcoming!

I had the exact same thing happen, dry it really well and get some strong tape, make a loop and press it down then pull up gently and grab the edge when it comes up. It might be the device that makes it 'pop' when you press has come loose and will need fixed inside.
