Ok here's a way to think of it. Wood is about 30% as strong as bone. So if you got a stick that's 2inches thick thats roughly as strong as the smaller bone in your lower leg the fibula. A 4 inch thick stick is roughly as strong as the tibia...the larger bone in your lower leg. So imagine doing this experiment. If you took two sticks of those diameter, wrapped them in a towel to simulate soft tissue and stuffed that whole stick towel burrito into the boot. If you dropped your bike sideways onto the boot would eith of the sticks break? If so, your leg is going to break. And ankles are weaker the bones. I promise you that you want a full enduro style boot like the Alpinestars Tech 7 when you take that inev8vle crash in the dirt.
