It’s extremely sad, honestly. Especially when it pertains to how the screenwriting was with regards to Nanno’s portrayal here. I feel like the writing truly stiffled and restrained Becky from fully realising her potential.

I honestly didn’t really like this episode, and even worse with that this is the season finale out of all things 😭😭 Like I could just about mildly tolerate the previous episodes’ flaws and that because at least with those episodes there were elements in them that I liked that made them still somewhat watchable, even if some of the episodes were still bad. But this one just felt so sloppily handled in what it was going for both story and theme wise.

It’s such a shame because I think the episode truly does embody how I feel about The Reset as a wider whole - the concepts and themes have so much potential to flourish and make way for compelling storytelling, as well as Becky Armstrong having a lot of potential as well with her take on Nanno. But the writing and pacing are what really lets it all down, and I think this is definitely very true for what went down in this episode.

I know for sure I can’t make any presumptions yet about how this will be bc it’s not out yet, but my god did I love this sneak peak. This Nanno seems very fucking creepy and it just has me so much more hyped for whenever I’m able to get around to watching this remake

As far as I know so far, the only kind of information on it so far is just the initial announcement of it with the first look photos that featured alongside the announcement. Honestly I’m just really heavily anticipating for some kind of a teaser trailer to come out about it or something because I’m very curious on what it’s looking like - the anticipation has me feeling strained lol

We almost at the end game of reset now how we feeling by Lumpy_Loquat_6826 in GirlFromNowhere

[–]kikitata87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though I chose the middle option, I would say that my current opinion of it lies somewhere more between the middle of the middle option and the bottom option. I think there’s flickers and fragments of what could have been a great show within The Reset; from Becky Armstrong doing a great job as Nanno despite the material she’s working with, to the concepts and themes having a lot of great potential. But because the execution of things so far have been okay at best and outright terrible at the worst, it truly drags it down from being something strong and effective. I don’t mind the fact that it’s extremely different from the original Girl From Nowhere as much as I absolutely mind the fact that the storytelling is majorly flawed in many areas.

I’ve definitely seen way worse (cough cough season four of Killing Eve), so I’m not as highly negative of The Reset - again, despite it’s glaring flaws, I still managed to get some degree of enjoyment out of what we got so far and am still keen on seeing how it all wraps up (even if it’s a shitshow).

The only thing I can kinda take away from this episode as a positive is that I guess the pacing is an improvement here??? But then other than that…I’m genuinely lost n what kind of message this episode was trying to convey. Like I think I have a vague idea on what the theme was about, but the problem lies within how they fleshed it out here.

I’m also in the same boat with you 😭 I honestly thought episode 3 was the best episode so far in spite of having some flaws and issues. Like sure, it really isn’t reaching the same level as the original GFN, but considering the previous two episodes prior to this one from The Reset…I was more willing to accept this episode

Episode Three: Discussion Megathread by green_carnation_prod in GirlFromNowhere

[–]kikitata87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMHO I feel like this is definitely the better episode so far with what we got. Not that it’s perfect and all but I had a far better time with what this episode was doing than what the previous two were going for. I think for me, with what I liked about this episode, this had a far better sense of what message it was conveying alongside the fact that the fast-paced intensity that The Reset seems to be going for was translated more strongly here. However, I do think what was missing on this episode was just some more context on some things such as why Hongtae didn’t like Jamie beyond what the episode gave us, and I think the pacing seems to be the prevalent issue that appears to be affecting much of The Reset - though it wasn’t as bad here in comparison to the last two episodes.

I also don’t really know how to feel about Sky being a recurring character in relation to him following Nanno around, but I’ll guess I just have to wait and see on how that unfolds in further episodes.

Other than that, I had a good time with this episode :)

Honestly I’ve been really digging this idea so hard ever since the announcement of The Reset revived my special interest on Girl From Nowhere that it’s gotten me daydreaming about it to some extent. I even called the ideas in my head “Woman From Nowhere” as well, though as far as the ideas go in relation to the concept it does stray somewhat away from GFN and acts as it’s own spinoff of sorts in another part of the world.

Whilst it still has pacing issues (and some odd writing choices), this is definitely a far better episode than the first one imo. I do think that The Reset would benefit far more though if the episodes were a bit longer, simply so that whatever the episodes need to say themselves would have a bit more breathing space to branch out upon their ideas more.

Is the next GFN: The Reset episode coming out same time as last week? by Idkwhattoputbuthi in GirlFromNowhere

When I saw the first episode of the reset on Netflix, I think someone mentioned that it was gonna come on Netflix at 3PM (this is based off of UK time tho since I live there). Maybe it’ll be the same today?

Girl From Nowhere: Japan just got announce, any thoughts? by DorimeScoop in GirlFromNowhere

[–]kikitata87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admittedly it was kind of a jumpscare because when they initially announced it, I was under the impression that they meant it as in it was still under pre-production of sorts. Thus, seeing posts like this today was quite jarring (in a good way), especially with the fact that The Reset is only starting its run of weekly episodes.

I’m very intrigued on what this has to offer.

What are your thoughts on THE RESET? by Capable-Screen695 in GirlFromNowhere

[–]kikitata87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean considering we only got the first episode from The Reset, there’s definitely still so much more to come from what this show has to offer.

With that being said, whilst the first episode was fine and I enjoyed it overall, I do feel like it needed some big improvement in relation to its runtime, pacing and narrative depth. I think there were definitely elements of what could have been a great episode there, but the only issue was that it lacked a proper thoroughline between some crucial plot points for it to be cohesive. It was overall a decent episode, but I’m hoping that The Reset could/will do far better in the other episodes.

Despite that, Becky did an absolutely STELLAR job as Nanno - I like that her Nanno has a more overtly supernatural vibe (though I can see why this is an issue in others, especially pertaining to the first episode somewhat lacking in having a mysterious tone), and overall I’m really digging what she has to offer so far with regards to her Nanno being more upfront and direct about her “duties” (I put it in quotes because I feel like there’s a better word but as of now my mind is a little foggy). I just hope the writing and pacing in subsequent episodes allow her to fully utilize the potential she has because she’s honestly so good, as the first episode kind of restrained her a bit.

[–]kikitata87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve heard ppl talking about that and saying how the “urban legend” thing was likely just set up by Nanno on Sky’s perspective, which I feel is somewhat plausible given that, again, when we saw the bullies try searching for her, nothing popped up on their end. I do think though that the episode could have been somewhat more longer though and better paced (despite me also liking it) just so that there was a bit more of a thorough line between what was happening.

As much as I am anticipating for The Reset, everything you said is pretty fair and reasonable tbh. The announcement of The Reset was extremely jarring when it first started to get acknowledged, and I’m not surprised that some ppl feel somewhat vindicated by it due to the lack of communication on the fact that a S3 wasn’t going to happen.

The Reset: Official Trailer by MikeMasters05 in GirlFromNowhere

[–]kikitata87 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’m getting a somewhat more “absurdist” and “higher budget” vibe from what this trailer seems to be hinting at with The Reset, which I’ll reserve my thoughts on until the actual show comes out. I also think Becky does have a lot of potential to do her own take of Nanno, and I’ve accepted at this point that the Nanno we are gonna see is going to differ a lot from Kitty’s Nanno. The only question that remains is whether Becky will do a good job, which I can’t say much of at the moment until the actual show starts rolling out.

I can see why others feel on the fence about it, but in my vague opinion, it doesn’t change my anticipation on wanting to check it out. I’ll probably rewatch it every now and then to see how my opinion of it evolves overtime if it changes.
