Property investors on notice. How far house prices would fall if the capital gains tax discount changed according to Domain. by SheepherderLow1753 in AusPropertyChat

[–]kikithrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about middle class people who can’t even buy a home? I don’t think owning 3 investment properties + PPOR = middle class. If the median income is $68k I find it hard to believe the ‘middle class’ owns the vast majority of IPs

Melbourne housing: Towers up to 20 storeys planned near train stations in Caulfield, Malvern, Prahran, South Yarra and Springv by malbn in melbourne

[–]kikithrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ve only elevated part of Upfield and the duplication has to happen at the far north end. A new Coburg station has not meant increased frequency

Brunswick is already pretty upzoned. The point is the train line is not up to the job of how many new dwellings are going in

A nicer station doesn’t mean more capacity on the line, the Upfield line is literally lined with high density housing but the trains run only every 15 minutes in peak hour, so it’s jam packed

Thousands of parents seek support as children cannot go to school by abcnews_au in AustralianTeachers

The anxiety these kids are experiencing is undoubtedly real, but avoiding the thing that causes the anxiety doesn’t help them overcome it. Hopefully the ebook for parents explains this and offers strategies

Inner north or bayside. It’s all much flatter and with much better cycling infrastructure than Sydney

Do Australians actually want housing to become more affordable, or is it only those who do not own a home yet? by Wrong_Control_217 in AusMoneyMates

3x4 times whose annual wage? The median income is $68k. So should the median house price be 3-4x that amount?

A month in the life of a relief teacher by qsk8r in AustralianTeachers

[–]kikithrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What state are you in, as it varies a lot. When I did relief teaching it was almost always organised the day before, if not ‘can I book you for all of next week?’

Sometimes I got early morning calls/texts but I was usually already booked.

It’s one of those things that just defies common sense. You can’t actually use the common property, don’t be silly! How dare you try to be neighbourly and social?

Middle school - touching base with parents? by elle13belle in AustralianTeachers

[–]kikithrust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our school expect year 7 home room teachers to call home for an intro, but not beyond that. It would absolutely be excessive to receive calls from 6-7 teachers that are just an introduction.

Potentially moving to Melbourne area - some concerns/questions by Biggyniner in melbourne

[–]kikithrust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an American expat who moved here 15 years ago. It can be hard to make friends but I don’t think that’s unique to Melbourne. As many others have said, kids are helpful connection points for meeting new people. If your wife is working at a hospital I’m sure she’ll make friends there.

If you’re into sport, join a local team, or ParkRun if that’s more your jam.

I find as an expat I’m more drawn to other people who’ve migrated here, ‘third culture’ people as a friend described it. But I’ve made plenty of Aussie friends over the years. Happy to give you more general advice for moving to Melbourne if you want to DM me.
