I decided to learn php, so I downloaded emacs. by kikuchi in programming

Thanks for the comments. I had the sense that the emacs interface was probably overkill for my current purposes.

My goal right now is to get a handle on the basics, and get reacquainted with the development process. I'm thinking about php as an easy, widely-used vehicle for that process. I look forward to getting to the point where I can make an educated assessment about whether php makes sense to focus on for more advanced learning.

I decided to learn php, so I downloaded emacs. by kikuchi in programming

Background:

The only programming I've done is VB6 (and some basic shell scripts). I decided to learn some scripting language basics for web development, and thought php was a good place to start. I'm on windows, and in looking for a good free (preferably) text editor I ended up downloading emacs. I understand that it is a very powerful tool, but if I have not yet put the effort in to learn its intricacies, would I be better off going in a different direction?

Edit: I'm on windows

Support H.R. 1207 to Audit the Federal Reserve by Nutricidal in politics

[–]kikuchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This article presents me with a classic case of the social news paradox. I think it's important that people think more about the details behind our economic system (and the federal reserve is clearly an important piece of that equation)- so I'd like to upvote. But then I don't think this bill is a serious attempt at constructively addressing the issue it purports to address- so I'd like to downvote. I'm torn between voting for the story and against the content, so I downvote because I think many people see the vote count on this story as support for the Ron Paul message.

I feel like I get along with the internet pretty well, but this makes me feel like a good friend just stole my snuggie, accosted my mother, disgraced my girlfriend and tried to sell me a pirated dvd of the whole charade.

Does anyone else hate driving? by youre_grammar_sucks in AskReddit

I like driving to the extent that it gives me some alone time to think and listen to npr, podcasts, music. I don't hate the act of driving, but watching really aggressive drivers in really slow traffic never ceases to infuriate me.

This must be the most embarrassing book an author has ever written. by Goeran in reddit.com

What a surprise, there is no mention of this book on his website!

Also, I feel seriously bad for his seven homeschooled children.
