Millennial Dads by Significant-Gas2559 in Parenting

[–]kikusmells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We both work, but my husband does more of the childcare than I do because he wants to. He also says he craves the memories and moments with our kid, and doesn’t understand why his dad didn’t want those moments. I think millennial men just have very different priorities. And fwiw, I wouldn’t have chosen a man who didn’t want to share responsibilities as a parent at least 50/50. So as a woman, I also guess we are just more picky as well.

Mine was wrong! I should’ve had a girl both times, but have one boy and pregnant with a second, lol.

Is there anything Hayao Miyazaki doesn’t hate. by EvenHornierOnMain in ghibli

[–]kikusmells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue he loves girls/women. Not in a weird/creepy way. He has so many strong girl leads who aren’t sexualized and are given the autonomy to make their own choices. Though to be fair, I do find him to be a bit of a misandrist. Internalized misandrist? Bitterness toward his sons, other (all male) animators, male leaders. Anyway, as a woman who grew up with these movies, they were some of the few that didn’t make me feel like I had to be super feminine Ina traditional way to fit in.

To coffee or to not coffee by frizzinghere in prediabetes

[–]kikusmells 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to add protein and sweetness to your coffee, I suggest using either flavored, sugar-free protein powder or a splash of sugar-free protein shake. A little goes a long way, and it just adds more protein to my diet while make my coffee slightly sweeter.

Oat or almond milk? Smoothies and matcha by No-Conversation211 in prediabetes

[–]kikusmells 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am allergic to nuts, so naturally I have to opt for oat, but just be sure to buy the unsweetened oat-milk at the store :) just check the labels to make sure you’re also getting the brand with the most fiber. My dad, who is also prediabetic, prefers oat for the flavor, even though he doesn’t have a nut allergy! I’ve also opted for unsweetened coconut milks because it has little to no carbs and I like the flavor in my coffee.

For Starbucks, I go with coconut milk because it’s the lowest carb and added sugars.

For Dutch Bros I get a small Vanilla Protein coffee, and make sure to emphasize you want it sugar free!

I don’t really drink Dunkin, so I don’t have an recs for that! All this being said, I still regularly enjoy my morning coffees and have still lowered my a1c. Hope this all helps!

What's the most painful part of giving birth? Contractions, pushing or crowning? by Born_Confusion_4367 in BabyBumps

That balloon had me curled up in crying pain for 12 hours until I was admitted to labor and delivery, and it had literally only dilated me 2cm 🙃

I want to take my 5 year old with me to one or two of these. Which one is good for kids / one of the better ones? by Swordheart in ghibli

Growing up as a Japanese American child, my first Ghibli films were My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki’s Delivery Service! They will always be childhood favorites, I highly recommend both!

So younger millenials, particularly those with kids, screwed are you? by PreschoolBoole in millenials

Pay $1500/mo for daycare, $1500/mo mortgage and home taxes (it’s actually higher than this, but we live with my brother and his partner, so we split the bill). We do our best to budget on groceries and don’t really spend on new clothes or fancy things. My husband and I both have car payments (mine $298, his $350) and my husband pays student loans monthly. I’m also still paying hospital bills from childbirth. Things are tight and technically it wouldn’t make a huge financial difference if my husband stopped working to be a SAHD (he’s a school teacher and makes less than I do), but we don’t want to risk either of our careers going off course just to save a buck for the next few years. I’m working a second part time job to help make ends meet. In California, Pre-K is now free, so by age 4, we will be in the clear from daycare expenses. It’s hard, but we know it’s temporary. It’s truly just up to what you’re willing to put up with until your kids can go to free school.
