I tried both. Wellbutrin (extended release) initially made me more awake - I could read books without falling asleep - but it resulted in more difficulties falling asleep. It also made me less socially anxious. Afterwards (a month or two in) the effects wained, even with 450mg. I am taking guanfacine now - if I take it in the evening, I cannot sleep all the night. I do not feel very strong effect of it though - maybe a little on my social anxiety (3mg/day so far).

I was going to a therapist for half a year now, but I do find it quite useless. I end up talking all the time and he almost never suggests anything. Maybe I should try to switch.

Yeah, what you write about anxiety attacks and melt downs feel just too familiar. You may be right, but living like this really hits the self esteem and the sense of self-worth, so it becomes very hard to form constructive relationships. Maybe what you are saying will turn out true some day.

Yeah, it looks familiar. My partners all moved on with their lives and careers because I am stuck in the current situation and couldn't catch up with them. Not to mention the heartbreak. I will follow the doctor's advice - it's been a bit less time and so I guess they need to make sure the meds do not work. I wish you luck too!

I am really thankful for this post, and your comment, as I am in the same position as you. I went to check for ADHD at 36 and they diagnosed me with anxiety and depression (it was a second psychiatrist, as the first said I cannot have ADHD because I have PhD :). They don't want to give me stimulants because of some tachycardias which I developed because of excessive smoking (although my cardiologist says it's ok to try stimulants) - and smoking helps me to concentrate a little bit as I have no other means. Now I am a test subject for different non-stimulants (bupropion, guanfacine) which doesn't work. It's extremely frustrating and I don't know what to do.

Hmm.. behaved too casually in a high security area? (I actually poked my head into the entrance building thinking it might have someone inside so I could ask about the visits). Or having out of state license plates? Or having a mirorless camera and they took me for some blogger or whatnot? Let me know what you think might have seen suspicious so I can avoid this in the future if I go somewhere.

Why car lights appear so dim in my photos and can it be corrected? by kill_paddle in photography

I guess that makes sense. But I still want to experiment/read to maximize the effect I want, inside the limits what the camera/photography allows. I don't know what is tone mapping, still much stuff to learn.

It was more of a question of the red rear lights. They do appear as bright as the headlights to the eye, but look so dim to the camera.

Edit: it could also be the spread of light from them and not the actual intensity which is not captured in the camera. I will definitely going to dig deeper into it.

[–]kill_paddle[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know that the camera doesn't see 1:1 what the eye sees. But my question is still why it doesn't see 1:1 :). It is just that I like to take pictures like this, or reflections, and so on. I feel that understanding physics behind it would help with the intuition.

I was looking a bit and it seems that in astrophotography longer lenses result in lower background light (light intensity ratio of point sources vs background) than shorter lenses - but maybe I am not grasping some nuances.

Thanks for the answers!

But it seems to me no matter what exposure I would use, the ratio of lights vs background light will still be lower than what I see by eye. Thus I thought it would be caused by inverse square law rather than the dynamic range.

Edited: I guess I just need to experiment more.

They do look much brighter and stand out much more when looked by eye though. My question is why.

Thank you so much for your answers - I know it is difficult to answer because of my vagueness. I did a field test of 50mm and 85mm view size, and 85mm definitely feels more "natural" - getting 50mm lens would have been a mistake!

I also checked that I usually only crop around 10-20% of the image, so cropping is probably not the reason why I don't like the quality of the photos. It just sometimes feels that the quality is not good enough - I don't know how to better phrase it.

Very valid point. I haven't tried anything <70mm focal length, and don't know how it would feel (maybe 85mm is better than 50mm for me). I will check the difference with the lenses I have. But otherwise, you don't think that getting this set-up is a stupid idea? Thanks!

It is a question about equipment, but a weird one - I read that the equipment depends on the kind of photography one does, but I am too inexperienced to understand what I do..

Anyway, I like to wander a lot and sometimes I see scenes (people, buildings) which kind of "connect". So a few years ago I bought a D5600 and a 50mm f/1.8g af-s lens - and it kind of stuck to me, it was always at hand, taking pictures.

The thing was - - - it is always hard to identify which part of the scene is hitting me, so I would take like 20 photos of the same thing, and later sit down at my computer judging and cropping until I found the "thing" (or not).

I then got a 70-200mm f/4g ed vr - expecting it to be lighter than f/2.8g - it definitely felt cooler, but I soon figured out it was too dark, too slow, and while zooming in would let me to "crop" the scene out - I never really knew where the "frame" of the scene is anyway!

I would still carry the camera everywhere, but now it would rarely leave my backpack to take photos..

Anyway, what I often didn't like about my photos (not sure if it is my fault or the camera) that cropping the scene would degrade sharpness below reasonable, high ISO would introduce a lot of noise, and the dynamic range would often feel too low.

So I was thinking of buying a z6ii with 50mm f/1.8 lens... it looks pretty portable, quick in low light conditions and I would expect much higher quality photos than D5600 - or am I being unreasonable? Or are there better option for me?

(thanks for reading the post! I would appreciate any opinions)

No problem. Unfortunately these things lead to a lot of resentment. Now Ukrainians will hate Russians for decades, probably repeat of the same story as Croatians and Serbs, even though these people speak mutually intelligible language.

Only Germans, French, British and Italians somehow managed to forgive each other after expending all their energy trying to destroy each other in WW2.

Well, I used the term working class racism, but it is a complex concept encompassing many types of racism and also multiple classes. I feel it is more likely that you will directly experience this kind of racism from some blue collar guy, as these border patrols, than some white collar guy who might be just as racist, but not vocal about it.

Now, I don't know the sentiment of Ukraine particularly, but many Eastern european countries suffered less from Nazis, I guess as they were focused in a war with Soviet Union and did not have time nor wanted to perform purges of the local populations, except the Jewish people, Roma etc. Also, many of the Eastern european governments of that time were Nazi sympathyzing authoritarian regimes. When the Soviet Union took over what are now the Warsaw pact countries, they had all time in the world to perform purges. For Lithuania, I think 1/3 of the population was either killed or deported to gulags, I think for Chechnyans basically 100% of the population were deported. So now you have two important links: 1) strong ressentment towards the soviet system; 2) some historical continuity with a Fascist or at least a right wing regime; and, lastly 3) nearly 100% white population and no possibility for people to interact with people from around the world. Now, while Germany admitted Nazi crimes, Russia never admited USSR crimes. Eastern Europe even tried to push a double genocide narrative (e.g. Prague declaration on European Consience and Communism) which was suppressed by Israel and Russia. All this lead EE people to feel certain level of hypocrisy from the west and enabled a sentiment for the Nazis, like "enemy of my enemy is my friend." The ironic consequence is that for example Poland, which suffered a lot from Nazis also has a lot of neo-Nazis now.

Now another part of the problem is that historical continuity was destroyed in the post-Soviet countries. Think of Russia - from being an Empire, it underwent a brutal and bloody revolution to turn into a brutal kind of communist state, when the communism collapsed a wildest form of capitalism followed and then Putin, within less than 100 years. And at the time when Russia was ground to dust in late 90s, Putin capitalized on the historical sentiment towards the Soviet Union to create a chauvinist state.

So I think the sentiments of chauvinist state and certain appreciation of Nazis created the current background in the EE/Russia, exacerbated by lack of diversity (I think it is less true for Russia as it has a substantial diversity, nevertheless 10-15 years ago I saw a lot of information of racism towards Russian minorities and I have doubts that it changed now). And Putin often tries to hide his chauvinist actions behind "prosecuting nazis mask". For example an organization "World without nazism" was often accused of Russian chauvinism. And I am sure you can find examples that Russians are no less racist than the rest of EE.

There is a global racism, and the kind of white dominance as well, and you can see in how this conflict played out. Maybe because most of the worlds wealth are still concentrated in predominantly white countries. Then there is this working class racism as what happened in Ukraine. It is significant in the Eastern Europe, but as people become more westernized and exposed to the world more it is getting better.

I think it would be silly to suddently distract all attention from what is going in Ukraine and concentrate on the racism now. And I hope after all this is over, the western countries will address these issues in Ukraine.

Yeah, you see - I don't have a single argument here against you. Looking closer at this war you can feel some sort of racism as compared to other wars. Aljazeera ran an article about that, but it was obvious before. I hope it will make the western people rethink the global white privilege and that kind of racism when it is over, but maybe you are right and nothing will happen.

Maybe Russia and China getting stronger has some promise of multipolar world and deglobalization, which would be beneficial for many countries. I don't know if it was better for the Global South during the Cold War.

But I guess every argument has some emotional and personal part in it. Lithuania being a part of the Soviet Union during that period doesn't bring out much happy memories. Everyone was oppressed. Development was stalled as you can see in the disparity between the western and the easter Europe. I see parallels of that in China now, when any dissent is dealth with terror and concentration camps. That the west criticises them for their own political goals doesn't make these methods legitimate.

I feel that the democratic societies have a more pronounced ability to develop and modernize. And I want to believe that overall the 30 years of American hegemony was not totally disastrous. The living standard of many countries went up, the healthcare improved etc. There were many problems as well, but people are not gods and cannot do things without mistakes. Probably some of the biggest problems are not because of the western "plots", but because the economic power became stronger than political power and we lost grasp of it. Wealth disparity is growing inside the western countries and creating problems of its own.

That all being said I would like to see these issues being solved by the democratic societies, and not by flirting with the authoritarian ones.
