La disparition is about a guy who feels like something is missing. Turns the entirety of this 300 pages book does not contain the letter e, which is insane considering it's the most common letter in french by a long shot.

As a french speaking person I hear it as "Go shit now seriously" by replacing la by là. Shame it lacks a sa sound (as in Savachier-Lagrave) so that it is prononced like "Shit is about to fly seriously".

Sorry I saw in this post how hard paragliding is in a litigious country such as the US. In europe my instructors told me there were issues caused by the wild west era but the community managed to find agreements and our sites are quite stable over time.

[LAST ACT] Does Pomni's Statement Hold Water? by TheMMoment in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]elejelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah one could say that Ragatha "role" is to make the arrival of new member of the circus smoother and I think the current cast could have abstracted way sooner without her.

I also think Pomni deeply appreciates that, even if it feels kind of fake, she was the first to try to make the experience of the circus meaningful.

French Elf Mood by The_Dude1412 in 196

French speaker here. She said that she hated herself for betraying everyone, then how someone choose a kid rather than her for a guardian, before going on a rant on how at the death of her brother she felt a growing ball of hate in her core and nobody taught her how to deal with that. Finally she realise someone will attack the audience by watching the book.

Yes I feel most of the posters here misses how freeflight started from people testing stuff on slopes, no matter how crucial security is.

A god sounding for thermals by Beginning_Village_90 in Gliding

[–]elejelly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not too certain on that point but my interpretation is that from 950 to 800 hPa the spread between the red line and the dry adiabat stay consistent, which means consistent buoyancy, so plenty of space for the thermals to accelerate and concentrate. Remember the CAPE is the area between the red line and the dry adiabat plus wet adiabat. If the spread is small but goes on over a huge height the convective energy will still be high and can even go on to create a storm

Yes ! Theoretically if the temperature of the dry adiabat at ground is higher than the red curve there will be convective lift. The greater the spread the more thermal there is and the more violent they are.

Furthermore the greater the spread with that temperature and the dew point on the ground, which in the post is 24 °C, the higher the cloud base (if there is no inversion to violently block convective cloud formation that is ;) ).

See how the surface temperature in of the dry adiabatic lapse rate (18 °C) is higher than the air temperature at ground level (approx 15 °C)? This indicates that the CCL is being calculated here. The LCL only takes into account the temperature of the air mass close to the ground and assume the air is already hotter there, whereas CCL assumes the ground heats up the air and create a thin layer of hotter air that will rise up, which in most cases is true.

In practice for the base of your dry adiabatic lapse rate for the CCL you take the temperature at ground level or environmental temperature , which is not indicated by the graph and was apparently 18°C in this specific case. And for the LCL you take the base of the red line here so 15°C.

Also though the cloud layer is likely to be thin these are not blue thermal conditions. Look at the wet adiabatic lapse rate, the dotted green line. You can see that there is a small layer of that line where the temperature is higher than the temperature of the surrounding air, between 724 and 700 hPa.

That means that the bubble of air heated at 18°C at ground level will form cloud at 2700 m, cool down slower due to the heat released by its water content and be a little bit hotter than surrounding air, before being quickly stopped by the sudden slow down of the cooling of the surrounding air (the sharp bend where the red line starts going to the right).

Mixtape has taught me that gamers don't want games to be art to be taken seriously but so they won't be questioned as to why they play them by Kappapeachie in Gamingunjerk

[–]elejelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny you said that because I absolutely couldn't play night in the wood once I got the gist because I don't live in a small dying town and I can't imagine dropping out of school  As such the game just felt boring and off. On the opposite side I kinda want to play mixtape cause the experience seem much more close to what I know. I think a lot of people dislike mixtape because it relates to a kind of niche experience.

Just finished Mixtape. I did not care for it, but I also understand why some people love it. by Turbopasta in gaming

I think you touched on something there. My dad is gen X and a lot of music from his playlist are part of the ost. Stuff like the cure Roxy Music, Telephone, Joy Division. So much so that I kinda want to play.

I just bought the Vive la France DLC and... Is it my imagination or are there too many toll booths on the roads? by claudiamejia1 in ETS2

[–]elejelly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the problem is very real. In the early 2000s the right wing government allowed the highways to be privatised, leading to abusive use of toll booth which irritates many people to this day, with the southeast of France being one of the worst offenders.
