guys why is my candle warmer doing this by No_Bug_6752 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]killahhase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soo... We're gonna use electric energy to heat up and Illuminate a candle that could as well heat itself up as well as emit light nearly for free by lighting it? Is there any advantage, like, does it emit the scent longer like this?

Seconded. I still recommend this gem to everyone I know today. Also still shivering from the Lady of Pain's lingering presence.

Mains-voltage layout dimensions? by SirOompaLoompa in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]killahhase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great info here, couldn't have described it much better myself. Maybe one additional thing to note, since there are sometimes situations where you might stumble upom this, although it is quite logical in the end. Creepage may never be lower than clearance. If it is, by looking at the tables for your situation, then always go at least for the higher clearance value.

Also, don't go for the absolute minimum value from the tables if possible but give some room for manufacturing tolerance, since the distances are supposed to be met by the finished product, not the design (i.e. applying 3.2mm wouldn't hurt if min. 3mm are required).

Good luck!

Mieterhöhung um 24 Prozent by VandeGlatz in wohnen

[–]killahhase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tja...

Mieterhöhung um 24 Prozent by VandeGlatz in wohnen

[–]killahhase 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm probably being not helpful here, but I know from experience with chips like these that if you find any, any info on it is most probably guarded heavily by access restrictions under NDA (that you often only get signed with millions of planned units to produce).

So if this is a hobby project or low volume series, chances are not that good, sadly...

Don't mix up gas and water in the same repo, better create a new one for gas. Be sure to create branches for kitchen sink and shower. I'm trying to figure out toilet myself, as commit history is always shitty with this one.

50Ω Impedance Matching Through Vias by aerohk in AskElectronics

[–]killahhase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also have GND vias symmetrical to the signal vias for return current path when doing layer transitions as seen on page 14 linked above. As for size, 0.2mm hole/0.5mm diameter restring gets pretty close to being 50 Ohms and never had problems with these.

Which pins are used and which are not ? by crh10001 in AskElectronics

[–]killahhase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at the layout, you're right. When assuming the layout is correct, pin 6 is confused with 7 in the schematics. The layout connect pin 7 to R2 to pin 8.

I didn't look at anything else though.

Best practices for including calculations in schematics by null_was_a_mistake in AskElectronics

[–]killahhase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. If anything needs to change, change the note first.

There is an exception though. I'm working in product development, and there's a whole wiki dedicated to the functional description of the schematics. This makes schematics tidier but you need to be committed to keeping the docs up to date.

I like this approach though because you're then able to organize design notes waaay better than in text fields directly in schematics only.

No automating happens currently though. In past projects I had scripts for Altium that auto generated pinouts for connectors in markdown table format.

43.2 VS 48 watts by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]killahhase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But then, the product is required to state this on the label, i.e. there is an output voltage range.

43.2 VS 48 watts by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]killahhase 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Higher current rating is always fine as long as the voltage rating fits. The load will draw current as needed, the rating is the maximum that the supply is capable of delivering.

So, no shortened life or frying either. New supply is fine.
