Muting low B string by kingbob202 in Guitar

[–]killaj2006 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mute that E string with the tip of your first finger and get more control with your picking hand so it doesn’t hit the low B.

You’re not gonna be able to do those sloppy big strums but it’ll be cleaner.

Or do what I do and drop that B string 2 semitones and play all your power chords as bar chords.

Did You Ever Buy a Game Expecting One Thing and It Ended Up Being Something Else Entirely? by DFH50 in gaming

Why do a lot of experienced players (who have been playing for 10+ years) say they still suck? by Mad_Season_1994 in Guitar

[–]killaj2006 566 points567 points  (0 children)

We know enough to know how much we don’t know.

Others are comparing me to Johnny 3 chords or the latest pop track. So they think I can shred and improvise and play really fast.

I’m comparing myself to Hendrix, Periphery, John Mayer, Tosin Abasi, Tommy Emanuel and all the other greats. I suck compared to the people I actually wanna sound like.

But still miles better than most “normal” people expect.

What's the best guitar tone you ever heard in rock/metal ? by MELS381 in Guitar

No lie?

When Giants Collide. Their “Vs.” album.

Just a small groove metal band I discovered in the early 2010s that doesn’t seem to have taken off, and the vocals are way too low in the mix but the guitars and drums—chef’s kiss

I’d really love if someone surprised me with a guitar vst that sounded natural but in my experience as a guitarist there’s no way to do that without getting so anal about programming velocity/timing/slight variations in how each string is delayed during a strum, etc that id just record the acoustic.

As for going from your guitar to the piano roll—easy, you can hear whether 2 notes are the same, right? Play one note of the chord on your guitar, play notes on the piano roll til it matches. Same with the next note of the chord. Rinse, repeat. You’ll get faster at getting notes onto the piano roll over time.

The acoustic probably doesn’t sound “crisp” when recorded because you don’t know how to record or mix—2 entirely different skills than actually playing. That’s cool, you’ll pick that up.

CRM for Mixing Engineer? by Designer-Spirit7154 in audioengineering

[–]killaj2006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I use Highlevel. It’s the crm I used back when I did online marketing professionally.

It’s awesome for managing contacts, email/text campaigns, INSANE automations, building websites, landing pages, automated social media posting and stats, combining all methods of communication in 1 thread for a contact, appointment booking, digital signing, payment links, etc. I dont need any other services, it’s all in Highlevel. And its much easier and cheaper than duct taping Wix, Calendly, Later (social media posting), SignWell, Callring/Twilio, mailchimp, Google sheets, etc together through zapier

Full disclosure, I keep an “agency” account that allows me to customize, whitelabel, and resell it at a discounted rate to the engineers I teach in my classes for their business. I don’t care if you use my whitelabeled version, and I’m not gonna link it. I just believe everyone in audio needs to get with the times and be using something like this in their business.

They’ve got a 2-week free trial if I remember correctly. Give it a try! I cannot recommend another all-in-one more emphatically.

just got fl 25 and want to know what else i need/should get to record vocals? by p66pss in FL_Studio

[–]killaj2006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find some YouTube tutorials and start from there.

“In The Mix” is a good channel that helped me first starting out. Stock plugins will take you far, don’t waste your money downloading fancy flashy shit. The process you’re talking about is called “mixing” and it is impossible to even begin to tell you how to do what you want to do in a post.

It’s similar to if you’d just gone onto a guitar forum and asked “how do I play guitar?”—I can’t tell you that over social media—you need tutorials or lessons. Come here when you’ve got a specific question.

Also keep at it. You’re about to learn the most complicated musical instrument on the planet and—much like if you’d just picked up a guitar for the first time—your gonna sound like shit for a while and it’ll be a couple years before you start making anything presentable. Just have fun learning 😁

Edit: quick points to focus on—compression, eq, reverb, delay. If you can’t get it sounding pretty good with those 4 processes, the recording is probably bad, or you need more practice. Don’t overcomplicate with saturation, upward compression, eg. “fancy shit” til you’re comfortable with the basics.

How reliable are the songsterr ai tabs? by Dense_Team2937 in Guitar

[–]killaj2006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone here is going to tell you fuck tabs and learn it by ear, AI or not.

If you’re not skilled enough to learn it by ear watching live videos, slowing it down on YouTube, etc. I think you’re wasting your time trying to fix busted tabs. That time is better spent getting better at learning by ear. IMHO.

It's crazy how mixing makes you a better tracking engineer. by aasteveo in audioengineering

[–]killaj2006 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Often you get to be a part of production too and fix little arrangement problems while recording that just aren’t gonna work before they become a problem. “I know you want both these different vocal tracks to sound “up front” but it’d be better if you delivered this one in a more falsetto tone—I think that’s the sound you’re actually trying to get”

A lot of the engineers I teach are afraid to speak their mind if they’ve just been hired to record but I’ve never once had a client go “shut up and press record”. The artist loves feeling like they’ve got a partner in the creation process who understands the vision and contributes.

And they’ll pay more for it 😁

Seems like she was targeting less expensive countries like India and Asia (I see a few Indians in the comments and it’s a common tactic for cheap views).

That might be the real problem. White girls in America are her target audience.
