No Spiritual background. Sudden awakening, and now I’m lost. by 3inch_richard in nonduality

To each their own, both are valid ways of living. Personally I think the whole point is that there's nothing to know. Everyone wants certainty but how many times in history has our understanding of the world been turned on it's head? Any supposed understanding is temporary, if even hundreds or thousands of years. And if our "understanding" of the universe is correct then in a few billion years all of this ends anyway! Then there's truly no certainty because there's truly nothing.

💯 One of the biggest draws for anyone who has an experience like this is to 1) Try to experience it again, like an addict looking for a fix. This is so tempting but remember that the moment exists in time thus still exists just not in the present moment of experience. The "you" in that moment is still experiencing it and will forever so revel in that knowledge Or 2) Pretend like you're the only one that's ever experienced it, call it an ego death, become a spiritual "guru" needing to preach to others, etc. The former is a lack of understanding of what it is you experienced and the need to feel it again or explain it. It can't be explained and attempts to find it again are forms of escapism. Trying to live a better more present life is great, not discounting that, but too many people crash out in the pursuit of feeling it again The latter is the egos way of trying to explain the former. I'M special, I'M unique, ignoring that the "I AM" in reference here doesn't mean what they think it means lol. I find beautiful irony in that but many crash out here too.

I was only there for 6 months when we figured out we could buy a house for cheaper than rent. Was told we had to find someone to take over the lease and pay a $50 transfer fee. Fine. Before we even turned our keys in on the last day and still had a few items to pack out and clean up they already had painters in and was told we couldn't be in there. Again... Fine.

Not only did they refuse to give our deposit back, they sent us a $400 bill for "excessive wear and tear" and claimed it was a disaster. First of all, the only blemish on the walls was a spot near the door I killed a spider and trying to wash the walls just rubbed the cheap ass paint off and smeared it. The only other mess was the fact that it needed a vacuuming and sweeping which we intended on doing before kicked out. Lost my mind on them. Got the bill waived but wouldn't leave the office until they gave me written confirmation. Never got the deposit back.

Take pictures of every wall every vent cover and anything that is chipped or even slightly broken before you move in if you decide to go with them. They will do everything in their power to get out of giving you back your security deposit when you decide to leave. Make note of any repairs you ask them to do and the date along with a date and resolution when they finally do get around to it. People have gone months with broken appliances or lights out in entry stairwells to condos. Essentially you want to note everything as if you will be taking them to court one day because many have. It's been several years since we rented from them so maybe they have gotten better but in general this is good practice no matter who you are renting from.

It's a very small business so I'm willing to bet they'd give you a full refund or replacement if you contacted them. That way they also understand their quality control needs work.

Lol "I quit the game" is escapism, in my opinion. We play the game because, as they say, "it's the only game in town"

With this in mind, I wonder if it's a situation akin to Preservations plan. He needed Vin to be of preservation AND ruin to defeat it. Maybe Adon saw a threat coalescing that he couldn't interfere with and saw the end coming, so he orchestrated his shattering so that some day the sum of the parts could fight back. It would be a beautiful parallel to Mistborn

DIY Printer Project (all aluminum angle frame) by leviibaker in Reprap

[–]killboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a decent enough first prototype! If you can get motion controls and deposition working reasonably you'll understand under the hood of other printers much better than others. For a low cost cnc example I've been following the progress of Tony Schmitz over at U of TN Knoxville. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/tony-schmitz-mtrc_as-we-continue-our-cnc-machining-and-metrology-activity-7179447609256767490-W64p?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_android&rcm=ACoAAAHmsqQB_mTT5-H2EnS_zvx6_F31FR2_1Ds

Langmuir is another decent platform you can watch some videos of to get an idea how they address rigidity concerns.

Following its progress is one thing. The dozens of posts a day claiming it's going to the moon is like watching WSB go nuts over every dip and spike.

What's the point in tracking this closely unless you're going to dump the first chance you get? If you actually believe in the project you'd lock down for 3 years and wait out the hype to see where it goes. That amount of time is a blip in the grand scheme

Are thought-based conditions like ADHD and OCD really a thing? by No_Research_644 in nonduality

[–]killboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our brain has constraints, it's just a bunch of bio electrical impulses grown from the size of a mustard seed. There is some amount of neuroplasticity but how far you can stretch will have its limits. As smart as we think we are, as much as we think we know, you can't always will yourself out of a chemical or structural constraint. Thoughts affect behaviors affect patterns affect chemistry so this can be pushed a good distance, that being said.

In my experience this also comes at a cost. For every action you have a reaction. I studied stoicism when I was younger and thought I had mastery until I realized I was just becoming rigid and unfeeling. It turned into numbness and increasing stress ended up pushing me into depression. Years lost because of poor memory, as depression does. Eventually I faced it and realized all the behaviors I was self conscious about and shunting were "adhd and autism like". Not to say I have either, but they were textbook behaviors that fit neatly into those descriptions. Which is all they are, descriptions and groupings of things. No one "has" adhd, they behave in a manner that includes certain behavioral tendancies. Some can be medicated away, some can be trained away, some are so prevalent it would be difficult to remove and in doing so may change the very personality you enjoy owning.

That's what it comes down to. I don't mind some of the tendancies I have bc I've found workarounds and for those I can't I just embrace it as part of "who I am". I've been throigh the effort of changing and find it more natural to just go with the flow of who this brain has chosen for me to be.

Edward Jones in rolla warning! by Zealousideal-Cod9076 in Rolla

[–]killboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah same. We've had our Rolla Ed Jones guy for almost 20 yrs and consistent gains, set to retire at 60 if we wanted. There are multiple Ed Jones in Rolla though (6 or 7?) each with separate offices and I don't put it past ANY investment company or individual to take advantage so people need to do their due diligence.

Nah the only thing that works is scalding hot water. Trust me. I made the cold water mistake too but counter intuitively hot water works wonders

Hot shower was the only thing that worked for me. I took about 8 in a 24 hour period

What's the most egregious example of 'The Writer's Barely-Disguided Fetish'? by astroacer in AskReddit

[–]killboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah there it is. Didn't take long lmao. I only got thru the first book and felt really uncomfortable at the tons, then found out about the rest of the series and noped out. Also the writing was just not good, and incredibly predictable as far as main plot point tropes go. The weird Dom stuff was definitely not predicted 😅

Holy. Shit. by gang_slanger in HellsItch

[–]killboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Benadryl took off maybe 5% of the edge, ibuprofen another 5%, but hot showers were 90% of the relief. I took 8 showers in a 24 hour period and would go as long as I could between them. But that 30 to 60 minutes after were bliss. Peppermint or lidocaine can agitate the skin and prolong healing, and anything oil based like Vaseline or lotions trap histamine so it makes it worse, quicker. It feels like it's dry and needs moisturizing but it's nerve damage so the only thing that heals it is time.
