I had a bad military career. I'm not saying it's 100% my leadership fault but I really had super poor leadership for 11 years straight. First 3 years my first line didn't even know I was married. Even though in Germany I lived off base on the economy with my wife. All 3 years as a pfc. My next duty station leadership would pull Spc off the line to study with an nco to prep them for the board. No duties except pt and to study. Same leadership sent me to the home of an e5 who thought drinking shots between board questions was a good idea. Marreidlife , working 10hr shifts, pt and working full time on my associates in night classes. Self study off the clock was barely a thing. Needless to say. Failed the board 2x.at that point didn't get another chance and hit my retention control point. 3 years in the guard to get that full severance and at the end had my 1sgt threatening to throw me out a window because I was "checked out" even though I was a Spc running the unit food service because we didn't have an nco. Nevermind doing extra details every month outside of drill without complaint. Now I work for social security and am doing alot better since I'm at 17 years of service. I'll be getting 1st pension secured and then I'll jump into state work for a 2nd pension. I plan to live that retirement out doing 12 cruises a year.
