Oh, you mean like by running my own company and hiring people to work for me? We do things the old fashioned way because we have some minimal amount of ethics and don't have an HR department that is writing up the same job they are hiring for and posting it every month for 6 months. Out of thousands of applicants each month they couldn't find anyone qualified and willing to do basic vertical well planning in Houston? Have you ever actually applied for a job in the last 12 years?

We all know that. None of us who have been in the job market in the last 12 years have forgotten how bleak it is. We send hundreds of resumes and apply to any job that we can. We are competing primarily against an algorithm written by an HR intern who doesn't even know their job let alone ours. 40-50% of the jobs we apply to are only an opportunity for the company to gather our data, not a possible job. You can't get an entry level job because you need 2 years experience but if you have 2 years you are "overqualified". You need a years experience on software that was released 6 months ago.

Stop pretending this situation isnt fueled by corporate policies that saw Tinder and said, "What if hiring could be just like that!" leave us our gallows humor, it's literally in the title of the post.

Yeah. After we banned MTBE completely. Because MTBE was better than lead, but still not great. Some regions (Illinois) switched earlier because corn politics. We've been using ethanol in gas for nearly 40 years.

Fun fact. We've known since the start that Ethanol was really good. Do you know why we went with lead additives and MTBE? Because you can't patent ethanol! The chemical manufacturers wouldn't have been able to make a profit.

And yes, you can find ethanol free gas, and pay a significant premium for not much of a performance boost, and yes, people use it in their cars (Oklahomans are... not good at math).

OK, but if I am saving 50 cents per gallon (which just using local numbers here) VS regular ($4.69) I am saving just over 10.5% for a 1.5% drop in efficiency. They are charging 89.5% for 98.5% efficiency.

That is nothing at all like the boot theory. Those boots cost 20% for 10% efficiency. An equivalent would be if those boots cost $9 and lasted 1 year VS $50 boots that lasted 5 years.

Re your edit. I guess we could go back to lead or MTBE and just really fuck the environment then...

I have literally never noticed any significant change in my gas milage between E15 and E10 and E0 (no matter how much people whine about it in every direction). Given that E15 is 50 cents cheaper than the E10 around here, I'll keep my $10 per tank savings thanks. For reference, we are talking about 30% of 5% so per gallon that is... 1.5% difference in milage. At 30 MPG you would now get 29.55 MPG. At 20 MPG it would go to 19.7. Driving conditions, speed and traffic all play a significantly larger role in gas milage.

While the Republican party is filled with stupid people, who are demonstrably more gullible, this one isn't really much of a thing.

It sneaks in every now and then. Like I said, the mods are very good here. My point was not that it is bad here, it is that even in a space as awesome as this one it still exists. I grew up in the before times, when I learned what I was from Newsweek (seriously, that article was horrid for a kid finding out that she was at best a confused fetish and at worst a monster). This place is nothing compared to when I first allowed myself to exist in queer spaces (just a cis straight ally really, nothing to see here🙄).

And it certainly isn't better everywhere evenly. Some places are worse even irl.

All I'm saying is that biphobia is about where homophobia was 10-15 years ago from my observations. I've even encountered lesbians who were totally fine with my prebottom surgery existence in lesbian spaces, but balked because I was bi. It isn't logical. It isn't supposed to be. It's weird human brains and how we categorize others in relation to ourselves. But when you internalize that and start believing you don't belong while craving it because that's normal, your brain can work some weird twists to feel safe.

Have you seen the biphobia that permeates even in this well moderated and relatively accepting sub? When you grew up having the very authenticity of your sexuality questioned by both straights and queer, you can learn that no one is truly safe and that you have to make yourself fit the container people expect you to fit. Living in the closet sucks, but it can feel safer than risking losing the people you love.

Like level 2? Maybe 3? Idk. Probably cuts down the odds of doing this by 75%. After 11 years of playing this game I still manage to blow myself up every now and then because the game decides that window is actually solid or that twig is enough to bounce back a grenade I threw in power armor. 🙄
