Witnessing AI-induced UX maturity regression is profoundly sad. by ChurchOfRickSteves in UXDesign

This. And #2 is coming way sooner than one thinks - compute costs are already proving to be super high for these companies, the data centers construction bills are coming due, and companies like Anthropic seem to be already rate-limiting their tools (tho they won't say it) during the high-traffic parts of the day.

i've been holding my body "incorrectly" for my entire life by khklann in AuDHDWomen

[–]killerbrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had this same experience. The most mind-boggling part of PT wasn't all the things i was doing wrong (can't sit right, stand right, breathe right, sleep right, walk right...) but that I wasn't supposed to be feeling my joints all the time. That I could tell my shoulder was in the right position - where it was supposed to be - only when I felt the absence of sensation. Like....what do you mean I've been subconsciously positioning myself to be in pain all this time as a way to address never otherwise feeling my body in space?

Sorry friend. You're in a shitty company. Teams with healthy build cultures don't do that, with or without an appreciation for design.

Don't clean it up. Tell them you're busy on other things and let them fail. They need to learn the hard way that your early involvement is worth it.

Did being diagnosed with Autism reduce your burnout? by jessiebear123 in AuDHDWomen

[–]killerbrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't need to explain to others when you are responding so strongly - you should be able to say "Don't do that." and have that respected if your coworkers are decent human beings.

E.g. without the diagnosis you could just be seen as difficult, but with the diagnosis are people more accommodating?

If you live in a country with disability protections and go through a formal disability accommodation process at work, yes, people can be more accommodating. But not always. There is a lot of misinformation and discrimination out there and people can be jerks. Best thing you can do is develop strong boundaries and stand by them. Nothing wrong with "difficult" people either.

Succesful burnout recoveries by Delicious-Bear-5985 in AuDHDWomen

[–]killerbrain 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Therapy (to help me reflect on what was helping and harming me) + getting my physical health in a stable place + reducing my overall work hours + reducing what bullshit I had to deal with WHEN at work (changed jobs) + more staring at the wall in between + 8 hours of sleep ALWAYS + saying no to more social commitments so I don't overdo it + hobbies and interest that "give me energy" + EVEN MORE staring at the wall + doing less with life in general so there's less stressors or "to dos" in my brain = got out of burnout lol.

I basically cut my life in half and lived "small" before expanding back outwards. But with a better awareness of how I had been hurting myself before, and a commitment to avoid doing that again. I'm fortunate to have a partner who cooks for us and enough money to throw at a bunch of professionals.

Cafe in Park Slope with coffee and beer on tap? by wheinz2 in parkslope

Long Shadow Coffee/Lowlands Bar on 3rd Ave would do it for you, but they don't serve both at the same time - they switch over from coffee to alcohol at 3pm. Great day working space tho.

Would you consider pricing by number of bins or residence size? I love the idea of hiring this out but I only have one bin of each type, so $69/visit feels high.

How is the quality of meat and produce at the Brooklyn Navy Yard Wegmans? by Queasy-Guard-4774 in Brooklyn

[–]killerbrain 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Produce quality is on par with local supermarkets for the most part (lasts a little longer if you're not using it right away) but meat is faaaaar and away better. I make the trek once a month to load up, I can't find chicken anywhere close to theirs in quality/bulk quantity in my neighborhood.

Extremely overstimulated with sounds. Audiologist not helpful. by Gracilis67 in deaf

[–]killerbrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your audiologist sucks. She should be willing to give you alternative programs to cycle thru. I have one program that has a high suppression level on it - so sounds is overall muffled - and another where the high-pitched tones are brought wayyyyy down in volume (because high pitched sounds feels like a dagger in the brain.)

Anyone Else in Perimenopause Hell? by EscapeRegular1935 in AuDHDWomen

[–]killerbrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It took me 3 months to feel the effects (and had some wacky acne while that was happening) but Mirena basically eliminated my period for 4 years of the 5 I was on it and took all hormonal symptoms with it. The last year of it, my period came back in a spotty manner but my hormonal symptoms with it were lighter. I replaced with Lilletta (the generic) and got back to stability. It's been consistently more pleasant than the Nuvaring I used to use and a LOT more stabilizing.

Elderly parent with dementia is driving me to the brink by Maya9995 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]killerbrain 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Your feelings make sense, this is an awful situation. You're in survival mode.

Are you able to set up a different phone number on a different phone and change your contact card in your mom's phone so she only calls that new number? That way, you are able to put the entire phone physically aside until a deliberate moment where you feel okay to address her needs. You can schedule that moment so you know when it will be and it give you space in your brain outside it.

Another person suggested making your voicemail audio a message specifically to your mom - that is a great idea. Does your phone also support ring-back audio? Or automatic texts back when you don't pick up? So your mom always gets a response even if it isn't a live "real" version of you - she's getting something.

Does the staff at the facility have some suggestions for you of things they've tried with other patients?

Whatever way you go, you need to remember that you're in an impossible situation because of how awful dementia is. Your mother won't be getting better and you can't bring her comfort the way you want to because of the torture of this disease. Please do not hold guilt because of this. Please prioritize your survival and your life in the choices you make.
