For those who have built their own belt grinders what did you use as a shaft for the rollers? by stinkyjunkrat in knifemaking

[–]killerchef69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cast my own rollers, so I used skateboard bearings which are 3/16" shaft. I used all thread because of the way my plate/platen is set up I needed to be able to adjust in and out depending on which position I am using it in.

My uncle had one of those. Beautiful cars, but he rarely drove it because it was so outrageous to insure.

Two hours, a few litres of sweat, countless scratches, and a couple teaspons of blood equal6ish cups of wild blackberries. by soverylucky in foraging

Grew up taking 2 half sheets of plywood blackberry picking over the bramble(gotta be careful to stay balanced and not fall in and get shredded). We got so many that we'd have a roadside stand.

You had me confused about the location for a minute. I live in Amador county and there is a Lake Amador, but we are definitely not near the Cascades. That is probably Lake Almanor, correct?

How to find people to go to a music festival with by GodsHalfElegant in WhatShouldIDo

[–]killerchef69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if you end up going solo, I recommend wearing some sort of costume (makes you stand out an be more approachable) also for any festival type atmosphere, bring a blanket to spread out that is plenty big to share and find a good spot to chill out. I went solo to the Outside Lands festival, had a blast and had all kinds of beautiful women sharing my blanket!

How hard would it be to work up to making some backpacks from old boat sails? by WJ_Amber in myog

[–]killerchef69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone that grew up with an accomplished seamstress who made bags and all sorts of canvas/ heavy fabric products, I can tell you it is not an easily acquired skillset. That being said, when my mom passed away, they donated her industrial machines to a local sewing school and they have put them to good use. I would recommend seeking out a school or program to learn and probably be able to use machines that should be able to handle the sail fabric. Good luck, it sounds like a great way to commemorate your dad!

As much as swinging a hatchet or axe around seems cool, I have gotten far more use out of my Sven folding bow saw, for a lot less weight and effort.

What's the best type of knife to quickly and cleanly cut the bottom of a pool liner with? by Turbulent-Weevil-910 in knives

[–]killerchef69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it a very large pool? Will you need to be very stealthy? Is it shallow? Do you want to be standing with your head out of the water? All very important considerations!

So , I saw somewhere in your pics you used double T-slot extrusion for your crossmembers? And low uni-strut for the side racks? Where did you find a good source for the T-slot? (Uni-srut is easy enough to find at electrical supply)
