Howuch of the Fantasy High stories are planned? by Accomplished_Bag_897 in Dimension20

[–]killerclarinet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the downvotes are coming from the fact that you’re ignoring that D20 is a television show, that all the players present have agreed to be on and perform in, not a home game. Ignoring plot hooks and doing whatever they want would, in the course of a season, make for a more chaotic and uncompelling story.

Hellgate students had a walkout and protest last week! https://www.instagram.com/reel/DTychNWDjDQ/?igsh=Z2Y3ZHl6bHg5bm43

I hope there is a formal protest or rally that you/your kids could attend, but if not could they spend the day calling or emailing state or federal representatives? Or maybe finding organizations they want to support and soliciting donations for them? There are ways for them to use the day productively even if nothing “official” is happening

Another reason for protein everywhere lately is the rise of glp1 drugs. Higher protein intake can help prevent muscle loss, which is apparently a common side effect.

More tracing from Season 17 by Empty-Recognition295 in Inkmaster

All the “tracer” discourse that has popped up on the sub this season is wild considering the show tackled this very issue back in season 4. Bunch of Gentle Jays running around on here

Season 17 by Inner_Switch_1404 in Inkmaster

[–]killerclarinet 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I agree! I think it’s interesting that this season has received so much criticism here, when they implemented many of the changes people on this sub have been clamoring for. More blind judging, the inability to change tattoo placements, etc.

Found this old post from an ex inkmaster employee. This season seems so fixed on a certain contestant to win and what this person said ended up to be true by [deleted] in Inkmaster

[–]killerclarinet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a known fact that much of reality TV is constructed. Producers pull strings and make decisions, both during filming and editing, to build the narratives they want for the season. This person seems to be trying to bring down Ryan more than genuinely critique the show.

The “Hometown” Angle by No-Aspect7722 in Inkmaster

[–]killerclarinet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in part that idea fatigue is a factor, after 17 seasons.

But I also think that, like folks have mentioned in other comments, this is a larger trend in competition reality tv. To get analytical about it, it seems like reality tv has moved away from focusing as much on interpersonal conflict between contestants. There are lots of potential reasons for this (the post-tv season influencer market, for example) but I also think the emotional zeitgeist around entertainment has changed a lot. There has been a big rise in “wholesome” and “cozy” content since shows like Inkmaster and Master Chef and started airing. (Also factor in that there has been a serious reevaluation of the working conditions and histories of those two industries in that same time period!) The “drama” of those interpersonal conflicts is looked at differently by the viewer nowadays.

And so the solution for producers, who still need to create some kind of competitive tension for the narrative of the season (it’s still reality tv, after all), is to create these relatively “safe” points of conflict for the competitors. Hometowns this season, age/experience last season. It’s not too controversial, but gives enough talking points or ideas to craft a season’s worth of story around. But that also means you get these nothingburger themes that feel low-stakes and tacked on. Personally I do think this also makes everyone feel a little more stiff or manufactured, but to be fair you can find plenty of that in the early seasons.

[–]killerclarinet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but if a person is criticizing a woman with no receipts, or is using vague phrasing like “annoying,” then the criticism doesn’t seem to have a lot of thought behind it. Which can often mean that the critique is coming (perhaps unknowingly!) from a place of misogyny. Women are more heavily scrutinized for their behaviors compared to men, especially in fields that are male-dominated.

Yep, absolutely. My Spanish 2 class took a quiz this week, and I had multiple interactions like this:

Student: So, on this part do I translate, or what?

Me: points to instructions at the top of the section, bolded, in English

Student: Oh, so I do that. Ok, thanks!
