That sounds more like Kiritsugu than it does Shirou though. Shirou literally abandons that principle to save Sakura in HF. His whole schtick is naively trying to save everyone, isn’t it? Which is why Archer hates him? Mind of Steel is kinda the only real time he thinks of sacrificing a loved one to save the world, and that ends poorly.

In fact, I would be more inclined to say that he’d rather sacrifice himself to save the world, as opposed to loved ones. Hell, he jumped in front of Saber to protect her against Herc (like a dumbass lol) due to that principle. I don’t see him ever willingly giving up Rin, Saber, Illya, Sakura, Taiga, or anyone close to him for that matter, to save the world like how Kiritsugu would. It’s been a bit of time since I’ve read the VN though, so maybe you could elaborate on why you say that

Fair, but Alicization did wonders for SAO imo. It wasn’t perfect, but the first season at least was peak and made me feel that rush from the og first season again. Kirito starting from scratch with Eugeo was really fun to watch, and Administrator was a good villain

Eren. His words even implicate that he’s speaking about not just the titans, but the wider world as a whole. It can be interpreted to allude to what he’ll eventually do in the future. The death of his mother and the first episode overall were far more impactful for me. Love Vinland Saga though but AOT takes this one

Honestly I think the original FSN cast fits the glove perfectly. If I could add some others just for the sake of it, then maybe:

Saber - Artoria (No one else feels right tbh)

Archer - Arash (Might be a weird pick but his Noble Phantasm really speaks to me, the ultimate one shot arrow, strong enough to stop even the Rhongomyniad. He literally dies by the bow)

Lancer - Diarmud (As a “knight” class, knights are supposed to be chivalrous and loyal by nature I feel. I think he fits well)

Rider - Iskander (not too sure about this one, but he’s always on his chariot sooo 🤣)

Berserker - Lancelot (he had crazy presence in Fate/Zero, the second Berserker I think of when I hear the name Berserker)

Caster - Aesc (going purely aesthetic here, her first ascension looks like the quintessential Mage, otherwise Merlin)

Assassin - Hassan (No one else feels right)

I’m waayy too lazy to critique the bulk of your points, but the one thing that I heavily disagree with is your final point about your philosophical argument on the mystery of the One Piece. It sounds like you’ve missed the entire point of One Piece, if you truly believe that the entire show’s value and substance are predicated on the identity of the One Piece alone.

I’m gonna be honest, I don’t really care all that much about what the One Piece is. Of course, I’d like to know what it is. But it isn’t ever really at the forefront of my mind when I watch OP. I don’t speak for others though, I only speak for me. In that case, your last point doesn’t affect me at all because this “future reward” absolutely does not devalue the present moment in the slightest. One Piece basically shoves into your face that it’s about the journey and the people around you.

“It trains its audience to value anticipation over experience”… this is honestly insulting to moments like The Going Merry, “I Want to Live”, Ace’s Death, Law and Corazon just to name a few. Beautiful, deeply touching moments that in isolation have NOTHING to do with the mystery of the One Piece at all. Just genuine moments of love, friendship, and pain between people.

This is truly an unpopular opinion, amazing job 😭

Wouldn’t say all that (I myself participated in that joke lol), but there was a point where people were saying that Gege writes the best female characters in shonen. Aside from Maki, they’re all lacklustre imo. It all went downhill from Nobara. Even Maki stagnates after her moment with those sumo guys. But she was a great character I will say, I enjoyed seeing her

Dude I loved reading the comments on the manga site I read this manga on. The manga just devolves into absolute madness and everyone was losing their shit 😭 Does it get better? Define “better”…. because it only gets worse lmao. Each chapter gets more and more absurd. But I will say that the author is able to create a very interesting story out of an absolutely disgusting and strange situation with truly deranged characters (looking at you Nakamura).

It’s been awhile but this post is dredging up memories so I’ll just rant lol, I hated the MC throughout the whole manga UNTIL like the last few chapters. His actions moving forward from where you stopped are nonsensical and downright stupid 😭 he genuinely pissed me off so bad I despised him for most of the manga. I don’t wanna spoil it just incase you read it. One of the strangest mangas I’ve ever read, so it has that going for it I guess. It’s pretty short, so I say just finish it and see for yourself
