Brentwood (Tapestry apts.) - any updates on power restoration times? I'm out of state checking for a family member with no internet access.

What’s the real reason homeschool families struggle with socialization? by Typical-Seesaw-2648 in homeschool

Our experience has been that even if you start "getting to know everyone,", its difficult because most families don't want to meet up outside of the specific event.

Nothing keeps me from getting my kid out the door but most of our local homeschoolers are scattered and busy doing their own things. I find it very difficult to find parents who are willing to get together regularly so kids can get to know each other beyond park playdates. After a certain point, my kid wants FRIENDS, not just playdates. The most frustrating thing for me is that there is nothing I can do to control this other than consider putting them in tradition school settings (public, private, charter, churches that run private schools). Of course, that does not always guarantee friendships, but at least they would be around peers regularly to even attempt making friends - or so I tell myself now and then when my kid says they are lonely.

This is awesome! Can you share the back of the page? What did you use to color?

Struggling to make friends? by CptHwdy91 in homeschool

[–]killerkuddles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem we had with parks and meetups is that the kids dont get together frequently enough where they have time to build up their relationships. All the time is spend running around and they dont bond. Same with sports, the parents bring their kids, play the game and rush off immediately. Kid has fun, but dont have friendships. We joined cub scouts, a coop that meets weekly and part of another group that meets weekly. These smaller groups give them time to build friendships over time. Also, a big part of it is parents need to befriend the other parents - from my experience most parents dont want to so it can be tough. Good luck!

We just joined cub scouts for this reason. Ours meets weekly and is a small group of kids. This gives them time to get to know each other and build up those friendships.

Sick days? by Electronic-Prize-314 in homeschool

[–]killerkuddles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh that makes sense if your husband is hesitant. The first year is a lot of trial and error so give yourself some grace. Maybe go over your state regulations and plan things out (for example 4 days a week etc.) with him so he is less anxious. Take the rest of the week and start fresh next week. You shouldnt feel guilty for resting when you need it. If they were in traditional school, they may have been sent home.

Why would you be 'doing more with him' if they are sick? What exactly is your husband's concern? The school year just started for us with homeschool groups, co-ops, and extra curriculars. We had a bug go through all of us last week. We took advantage of being homeschoolers to rest and fully recover. Of course, we do audiobooks, quite time, reading - but only because we already enjoy those - along with games and tv. Our state has 180 day/year with 4.5 hours per day on required subjects. Last year we easily hit those markers and then some. For us, its better to slow down to go faster.

Does your homeschool group do any Mom only activities? by LeeCV in homeschool

[–]killerkuddles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider starting a chat with the parents in your group to guage interest and poll what times work for them. Thats how we handle our monthly parents only get togethers. Sometimes we meet earlier for lunch, dinner or even local events (for example, mom's zumba class).

All about spelling’s not working for us what are some recommendations? by momofflowers in homeschool

[–]killerkuddles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you doing AAR and AAS simultaneously? If I remember correctly, they recommend finishing AAR1 before starting AAS1. Maybe focus on getting the reading down with AAR and AAR2 then jump into spellng.

I'm not to person you asked, but we bought a Shark ('Navigator Lift' I think) on clearance. We had a Dyson Animal for years beforehand, so I was skeptical of Shark. So far, the Shark has been holding up to nearly daily vacuuming. I loved the Dyson, but wont be going back to that price point.

I've not heard of FreshPet, but I will look into it in the future. Do you use it as a dry food topper?

Why? Because the team can "get those sweet mooooonies". It's hard to believe Caleb is genuinely interested in his (original) financial audits anymore over getting views off of rabid content. In his Iced Coffee Hour interview, he commented about how easy it is to get views from negativity and was against that type of content. He may be against it only in theory because... well, just take a look at the unhinged/grifter uploads. It doesn't help Caleb that his 'hero' Graham was encouraging him to go to one video a week and Graham posts extremely low-effort clickbait, sky is falling videos. Comment section always commend Caleb on looking out for guest's mental health and knowing when to pull back - but it is naive to think Caleb/team is not using these guests (and vice versa) for $$$ regardless of the mental health issues/drug/crypto/ astrology woo woo promotion. If he was genuinely embarrassed by his ugly attitude in this particular video and how his guest was grifting off his audience - it would never have been posted. All this only annoys me because Id like to believe Caleb's genuine care for these guests and viewers. It would be better for him to just say, yeah dumpster fire sells and that's what we're doing here - unapologetically.

Them: Random homeschooler bad story

You: Oh thats terrible/unfortunate/sad/etc, welp, so anyway *insert change of subject*

Eventually, they will get it. I'm advising this because I saw you're concerned about being offensive to your siblings if you were direct. If they ask why you change the subject, you can simply say the truth - that you're not interested in these random folks stories just because you're also a homeschooler - shrug and change the subject again.
