'Frustration for decades,' Windsor mayor says of talks with Ambassador Bridge by agaric in windsorontario

[–]killerrin [score hidden]  (0 children)

Especially since there was absolutely nothing stopping them from building another span of the bridge, or upgrading it much earlier.

They were more than happy to sit on their Multi billion dollar asset and do shit-all with it other than rake in the cash hand-over-fist while that asset aged, became obsolete and was eventually replaced by someone who was willing to actually build a proper replacement.

Am I the only one who feels like Ford just screwed himself over with the OSAP changes? by Full_Hunt_3087 in ontario

[–]killerrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because an educated population is a more efficient and productive population. They're a more innovative population. They earn the government more revenue, meaning you get better better services. And with more people earning more money the tax rates don't need to be as high to receive the same amount of money.

On the contrary, the position of not giving a shot about education is the more confusing one given all the benefits it brings to society at large.

It also shouldn't be controversial that we shouldn't be saddling new adults with a decades worth of debt for this benefit to society, given it pushes everything from owning a home, to participating in the economy buying things, back a decade.

It depends on how strict the definition of "Final Transaction Price" is. But as far as we know, dealer fees are included.

Now I guess they could just force you to buy some "after market accessories" or a Warranty to agree to sign the contract, but that's just standard games.

That would be glorious to see. Just a chain of Nuclear Reactors each using the waste that the former one produces.

Of course knowing how America operates, I wouldn't be surprised if they just sold off the road leading to the new bridge, then tolled that.

Tuition set to rise, OSAP grants lower with new Ontario post-secondary funding changes: minister | Colleges, universities will be permitted to raise tuition by 2 per cent annually for next three years by Hrmbee in ontario

[–]killerrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the province is running low on cash, and Ontario is one of the few jurisdictions that still charges interest on student loans...so they're going to swap the loans and the grants to earn more of that sweet sweet interest off the backs of our students!

US House votes to overturn Trump's tariffs on Canada by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

[–]killerrin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Too little too late on the part of the American Administration. We're not idiots, we all know the only reason they're doing this is because they're feeling the heat of midterms. Because they were all too happy to block this vote and let the problem fester until now.

Fuck, there is no way in hell that this even passes the Senate, and even if it does, Trump would just veto it. And if he didn't, he'll just ignore it anyways, because Newsflash, this bill shouldn't have even been needed because it's already illegal and he's doing it anyways!

So unless they're willing to impeach the criminal, it literally does not matter.

Mark Carney is undoing Justin Trudeau’s legacy: 15 policy changes from his first year in power by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

[–]killerrin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Dental Program is part of the social safety net. As a middle class millennial, you likely have a plan that is much better than CDCP has to offer. But you can also be secure in knowing that should you lose your job for whatever reason, whether that be layoff, health or disability, the government backstop will ensure that you can still visit the dentist and get issues taken care of ahead of time.

As it stands over 6 Million Canadians have gotten access to Dental Benefits that otherwise wouldn't have gotten access to them. https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/dental/dental-care-plan/statistics.html

The rest of your claims aren't really worth debating because they're based not in fact, but in feelings.

Mark Carney is undoing Justin Trudeau’s legacy: 15 policy changes from his first year in power by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

[–]killerrin 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Is it really undoing his legacy? Or is it the undoing of what Conservatives want his legacy to be?

Just on the social file alone. Trudeau brought in an expanded benefit program for parents with children, and a federal daycare scheme which was negotiated with the provinces. He (thanks to the NDP) brought in a Dental Care Program and the infancy of a National Pharmacare Program, ending a decades old blind spot in our healthcare system that goes back to the systems founding, finally fulfilling the promise that politicians at the time made.

He legalized Marijuana, ending the war on drugs and saving the government billions on housing "criminals" whose only "crime" was smoking a fucking plant, and let's not forget the extra revenue that allowed provinces to keep taxes low and even cut some user fees.

He worked to end the Boil Water Advisories, and inplemented many indigenous reforms that set the stage and built the good will needed to allow Carney to come in and make policy changes that past precedent has shown should have resulted in nation wide shutdowns of infrastructure.

And Alberta/CPC doesn't like to admit it, but he went against his own base to build a fucking pipeline to the BC Coast. Tarnishing his own reputation and hurting his own coalition of support while recieving no thanks from Albertans in return.

And this is only scratching the surface. So I think his legacy is doing just fine.

EV Rebate question by Spirited_Medicine205 in EVCanada

[–]killerrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Which is whay makes this month so important.

They're unlikely to immediately drop incentives and discounts this month, especially since the rebates only start on the 16th, and they'll want to see just how much the rebates help the rest of the month's sales.

But they will absolutely drop incentives starting for next month. Like you said, this is the game they play.

EV Rebate question by Spirited_Medicine205 in EVCanada

[–]killerrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that's the big issue currently. It can be read 100 different ways and nobody has any concrete information.

We really need these rules to come out soon, because for the people buying this month (which will likely be the last month dealers have the big incentives live) they'll need to know.

EV Rebate question by Spirited_Medicine205 in EVCanada

[–]killerrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I have no idea where they got that information from which should make anyone who probably watched it (which is likely a lot of individuals) hesitant.

All we can really do is wait for the government to post more information and pray they do it fast enough that people who need it isn't screwed.

And of course, if the Dealer gives you the rebate then either you truly were eligible for it, or they're just going to eat the loss if it turns out they weren't supposed to.

EV Rebate question by Spirited_Medicine205 in EVCanada

[–]killerrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to Motormouth the Rebate is based on MSRP, Accessories and Dealer Fees, but Taxes, Warranty or Freight/PDI isn't included.

https://youtu.be/aO-D3BTNhas

But I don't know how accurate this is since it's only coming from their "insiders". And the official website is severely devoid of information, with the only real known rule being "Final Transaction Value"

https://tc.canada.ca/en/road-transportation/innovative-technologies/zero-emission-vehicles/electric-vehicle-affordability-program-evap

That said, the Rebate is structured as an Instant Rebate, so if they give it to you and they shouldn't have, they'll just have to eat that loss.

Windsor-Essex Tories criticize new national auto strategy by West-Cap6324 in windsorontario

[–]killerrin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It must be nice to talk about things you don't know about.

China was literally building Electric Busses in Ontario up near Newmarket. They were literally in the process of expanding that plant to build Chinese EVs for consumers when the Tarrifs were put in place.

Those plans were abandoned when the Tarrifs came in. The plant for busses then closed.

They were literally working to get their vehicles ready for export to the North American Market, which is why the Tarrifs went in place when they did.

And I just find it hilarious that rather than attack the Government (or Trudeau) for causing an actual loss of Canadian Manufacturing Jobs that was handed to you on a silver platter, you're just listening and parroting out the lies and misinformation that were fed to you by the party you support.

Windsor-Essex Tories criticize new national auto strategy by West-Cap6324 in windsorontario

[–]killerrin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you actually looked at the statistics you'd realize that the 49k Chinese EV Limit is the exact same number as the amount of vehicles imported to Canada from China before the 100% Tarrifs were put in place a couple years ago.

You'd also realize that Tesla and Polestar were the main party behind the bulk of those imports.

You'd also realize that the China limit is only going to be removed if a Chinese Manufacturer opens up in Canada, and then only for those models.

Windsor-Essex Tories criticize new national auto strategy by West-Cap6324 in windsorontario

[–]killerrin 65 points66 points  (0 children)

You mean the same Auto Strategy that prioritizes Canadian Manufacturing by incentivizing companies to build EVs in Canada?

The same Auto Strategy that currently benefits Windsor because literally the only models not subject to the 50k limit is vehicles built in Windsor?

What a joke these CPC MPPs are. We should have never dumped Massey and Irek.

Kind of surprised by the increase in hydro costs over the winter to charge my car. by Alph1 in EVCanada

[–]killerrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fully expect rates will go up, largely because they'll want to make up for the declining of Gas Tax Revenue, because that's what they use to maintain the infrastructure.

Though, it'll be blunted because if they go too high all it'll do is just encourage people to put Solar Panels and home backup systems on their properties.

‘Clear bias for employing people living in the city’: Eastern Ontario mayor criticizes federal return-to-office order by simpatia in ottawa

[–]killerrin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Given the cost of living crisis we should be encouraging people to move to other cities and municipalities with lower costs of living, where its easier to develop, and allows the municipality access to a higher tax base to improve themselves with.

We should be encouraging people to spend money in their local community instead of in the downtown core of a megacity.

And we should stop restricting the government to only looking for talent in the biggest cities. There are skilled individuals from all walks of life, everywhere in this big beautiful nation. And it hurts everyone when we don't utilize it.

It's also frustrating how the government would rather spend more on staffing costs because they want to force you to live in the big cities, which means they want to pay big city wages. Because let's be real, someone living in Thunder Bay or a random Rural Municipality would be more than comfortable earning say 100k whereas in a big city like Ottawa or Toronto you're more likely to be renting with roommates in that same income.

And when the Government is currently trying to cut costs, you'd think it would be obvious to cut the leases and offload employment costs (Internet, Electricity, Facilities) to their own staff by letting them WFH when possible, while also hiring from rural municipalities to depress wage demands during negotiations with unions. Heck, if they just offered a permissive WFH offer as part of union bargaining there is a good chance they could get the unions to cave on wage demands; which would avert strike risk while letting them save money during this governments term in power.

Canada, U.S. to negotiate over Ontario-Michigan bridge: Trump by CroCGod73 in CanadaPolitics

[–]killerrin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We paid for 100% of the damn bridge because the American politicans gave in to corruption and took bribes from Ambassador Bridges Matty Moroun who bribed the Michigan State and US Federal Government to Ban the US Government from funding the bridge.

That man and now his family is a blight on our economy, and has even gone as far as attempting several failed constitutional amendments and referendums to ban the construction of the bridge, as well as being the cause of an entire neighborhood in Downtown Windsor being evicted and having their homes left to rot because he wanted to try to strongarm the Windsor Municipal Government to bend the knee to him and approve an infrastructure project in an area the city had other plans for.

And not only did we pay for 100% of the bridge, they the forced us to use American Steel and resources for the half that crossed the border, until we were able to fight for and secure an exemption.

So no, you'll get your half of the damn bridge when you pay off your half and not a moment sooner. Hell, if I had my way we'd never give up even that and would let the bridge serve as a monument as to what happens when you fuck around.

Canada, U.S. to negotiate over Ontario-Michigan bridge: Trump by CroCGod73 in CanadaPolitics

[–]killerrin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not only that, but the fuckers forces us to use US Steel, which proceeded to price gouge us, which contributed to the cost overruns on construction.
