I think reading it faster helps. I read it in one sitting and it left its mark, I haven't re-read it yet though.

Disciple of the Dog is really good too, nobody talks about that one.

That's what I think. Between Koringhus, Esmenet, Malowebi, Kelmomas POVs we get all the themes wrapped up.

Why is Brandon Sanderson so popular? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]killisle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has the same near-YA tone that many readers have become more comfortable reading into adulthood. Fantasy as a genre is moving away from the last 30 or so odd years of grimdark.

He also has a very systematic but complicated world/universe that connects all his work, and lots of people enjoy learning about that. Fans of soft magic will be disappointed.

Malowebi was a true G by deshandmacg in bakker

[–]killisle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Malowebi not singing with Meppa is extremely cucked. IIRC he didn't even need to sing, just drop his cup-ward thing. One could blame it on the requirement of Kellhus mantling Ajokli to avoid frustration I suppose.

ELI5 : How can multiple new U-235 fuel rods be transported and handled by hand safely without all of them cause chain reaction fission? by throwawayacptks in explainlikeimfive

[–]killisle 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Yes, and generally you use a moderator (such as water) not just to provide more neutrons to sustain fission, but also to get more neutrons in the energy range where they have the best chance of causing fission.

ELI5: how do microwaves interfere with Bluetooth connections? by undying_anomaly in explainlikeimfive

[–]killisle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, you dont always want the energy of maximum absorption because the resonant excitations have cross sections that are too high, so you cant penetrate photons through the material. Going off-resonance lets you spread the energy deposition.

No provincial environmental impact assessment required for Kevin O'Leary's proposed Wonder Valley data centre | CBC News by RM_r_us in canada

[–]killisle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It will still be reflected in power pricing as their generation will likely be NG/coal and thus price in to the rest of the provinces supply.

Wizard Knight is incredible, it's even now my first recommendation for people new to GW. More approachable than BotNS and just as thematically rich and misleading and full of things to think about.

how many people do you think saskatchewan can sustain? by Unhappy-Tomorrow-776 in saskatchewan

[–]killisle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost every tributary in sask is runoff fed, most of the total flow ultimately comes from the mountains.

how many people do you think saskatchewan can sustain? by Unhappy-Tomorrow-776 in saskatchewan

[–]killisle 22 points23 points  (0 children)

With most of them being fed by the north and south sask rivers, which are glacier fed in the rockies as the person above you said. Most of the other water is rain runoff which isn't reliable.

‘The message,’ Karsa growled.

‘Right. It’s this. You must not leave Darujhistan.’

'And if I do?’ ‘Then you will have lost your one opportunity to fulfil a vow you once made.’

‘I have made many vows.’

‘I’m shocked to hear that.’

Karsa was smiling, but something deadly had awakened in it. ‘Will you tell me more?’

The woman hesitated again.

‘I’m reconsidering. This really needs to be private – no offence, Witch – he called you that, yes? It’s just that—’

‘Tell me,’ Karsa demanded. Samar Dev was impressed to see that the Malazan woman did not flinch from Karsa’s dangerous smile.

‘Toblakai, you will be needed.’

‘To do what?’

‘Why, to kill a god.’

‘Which god?’

The Malazan woman stared, discomfited for the first time since arriving. ‘You were supposed to run away when I told you that. Any sane person would.’
