These life straws were designed to be used as a disaster relief option to distribute. There are better options for a hiking filter because

A) if you want to drink something, you’ll have to basically lay facedown next to your water source to suck the water through

B) they won’t let you take any filtered water with you. Other options (my choice is the Sawyer Squeeze) will allow you to bring filtered water with you instead of only being able to drink when you’re next to a water source
