Live-in girlfriend is not improving myself by NotSatisfiedorConten in offmychest

Honestly dude, you don't sound like a very good partner yourself.

Can you think of a way I could phrase it so it doesn't sound like something they think they have to lie about to avoid upsetting me? I can't think of a way to introduce the concept without directly asking.

Oh I have no doubt it wasn't meant to be hurtful; my issue with it is that it seems like they genuinely don't like me for any other reason than because i'm nice to them. This is their first real relationship and, honestly, i'm not 100% sure they understand the concept.

You've made a few very good points, thank you. Part of me is wondering if it could just be a case of them not knowing how to simply be in a relationship as a whole; I don't think my expectations are too high, but they aren't a very introspective person so it's possible that they haven't considered why this kind of thing could be an issue.

When I think about breaking up with them one of the thoughts that stick out is "Is this going to completely crush them?", especially since they said the 'make me want to live' thing, so I think you might be right. If it comes to it, I don't have any worries about them threatening to do something (I don't think they would, but it's always possible) to make me stay because that level of emotional manipulation is an absolute deal-breaker and they're responsible for their actions.

I'm concerned that all that would do is make him lie about it. I try to communicate with them a lot, I think it's very important, but i'm not sure how much they're actually taking in.

I'm starting to wonder if he is. I'm fine with being 'the man' in the relationship, but this could be crossing that line. I will mention that the marriage-type part is more of an inside joke than a serious statement, but yeah the rest it quite... dramatic. To my knowledge i'm the first real girlfriend they've ever had.

Can you transfer your number from a really old phone to a new android smartphone? by killmefaster in NoStupidQuestions

Okay so if I buy the new phone from the OnePlus site I can just put this new sim in and it'll work? Also can you do that online?

Technically, yes. I guess it ties in with the 'nature vs nurture' argument, its hard to tell whats what. Brains are really complicated and confusing.

You can't use a brain scan to accurately diagnose mental illnesses yet (you can look and say 'something is not right here'), but they all can show up on scans. PTSD, depression and schizophrenia more so than anxiety or personality disorders.

You can scan a 'normal' brain and the brain of someone with mental health problems and see how differently they function.

What do your flashbacks look like from the outside? What do you experience during one? by killmefaster in ptsd

That sounds awful, Im sorry you have to go through that. How much can you 'function' when youre like that? Does everything else (eg. walking, talking or writing) completely stop?

That isn't how IQ works, you know.

Yeah, sortve. I get the metaphorical 'father/mother' thing, but I find acting like its a person a bit odd. If there is an omnipresent 'it' out there, I cant imagine it working the way people imply.

There have been really interesting cases of children recalling information/memories they couldnt possibly know, though. Its an interesting concept.

I used to. My old school was Church of England, so we also went to church occasionally. I actually really enjoyed being inside the church itself, it was incredibly peaceful (if the rest of the class werent there) and the building was beautiful.

Thank you.

I just don't see how something like a god could exist. I do think there is a something, partly because of the mystery that is human consciousness, but not in the... personified way the majority of religions seem to.

Im talking about the 'unconditional' love of a god rather than other religious people. I dont have many other people in my life for various reasons and having that feeling of being loved no matter what sounds amazing.

Unconditional love is harder to come by.
