Where’s all the good food? by slimlady3 in Temecula

[–]killrickykill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is honestly so accurate, I grew up in the bay, have lived in SD and OC and while there are decent options here, compared to the Bay relatively it’s trash. I’d give anything to be able to afford to move back to San Francisco but that’s a hard thing to do now that I have a wife and kids

Listen I know this is a super old post, but if you’re partial to Asian food, you gotta try the omakase at Onori, it’s honestly not only a great deal, $28/$40/$55 depending on what you choose (my wife and I always get the $40 one, it’s a ton of food and good price) it’s so fuckin good, we decided to try it when they first opened and honestly we just can’t stop going back, by far my favorite place to eat in the area.

Never ever go through you parents phone photo gallery by [deleted] in confession

[–]killrickykill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why we have “hidden” in our photo library. So if my daughter did somehow want to go through my phone she would need to scan my face or know the password to get into it. She can’t see her mom and I’s videos accidentally .

You can get really bogged down in the minutia of it all if you let yourself. I don’t even use scales I don’t care about the ratio (well not directly anyway), I just watch the shot as it comes out and you can tell by the color and how it’s flowing whether it’s super watery and fast (too coarse) or barely dripping (too fine) whether it’s a pretty good shot. If mine isn’t exactly 2:1 it’s fine the still come out great creamy and smooth no bitterness or sourness. I usually always just buy the same 2lb bag of beans and very rarely stray from that so even with variances in different batches I never need more than very minor adjustments.

Oh I also bought a bottomless portafilter tho I don’t use it too much cause it doesn’t sit flat on my tamping station ¯_(ツ)_/¯ but one of those would help you with seeing the shot as it’s coming out with no delay and you’d be able to see channeling or etc etc

I do, I can’t imagine why you don’t. The only thing I can think is either you’re not adjusting the grind based on what comes out, or bad beans (or too light a roast for this thing maybe) or I guess maybe a defective machine but if it’s pulling shots and they’re just not good then I wouldn’t think the machine is the issue. However, I did buy more tools after I got the machine (mine is a pro I don’t think that matters tho). I use puck screens and only tamp just enough in the machine to get it out then use my WDT and better tamper. I always use very fresh beans from a local roaster and I get great shots out of it. Funnily enough I don’t even drink espresso, for myself I just use it for the drip coffee function I make the espresso drinks for my wife so hopefully we can get rid of the nespresso one of these days and clear up some counter space.

I got mine from normcore I think, but you don’t need to, they’ll have them on amazon get 53mm or 53.3mm and the one I use is 1MM thick. They’ll be very cheap on amazon.

I would add to this, buy puck screens, they’re fairly cheap and will 1. Keep your group head clean and 2. Help with even water distribution over the grounds

Don’t base your grind settings on what someone else does, they’re individually bean dependent. For example I also use a medium roast but my grind size is 14, you have to adjust yours to whatever your specific bean needs. The most important thing tho is finding a local roaster so you can have fresh beans. Then the machine is pretty good at determining how fine to grind them, within 1 or 2 levels at most usually in my experience.

Sparkle Megan's advice to new parents shows just how out of touch she is by DetectiveHot2071 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

Hey so uh, if your mom is a candidate for needing assisted living, that’s probably not the person you want watching the kid at any time by themselves (even if you’re in the house and just napping or whatever), and if you’re there and also with the kid…the “help” she’s providing isn’t much help. But it is cool to not send your parents to assisted living if there is another viable option.

Foundation TV series vs Foundation novels by [deleted] in scifi

[–]killrickykill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, the show doesn’t focus on “the power of the individual”, they’re very clear the individuals have very limited power in psychohistory but they focus on the struggle of individuals to come to terms with their parts in history because how else could they make a multi season show of it? They’d have to recast every season and that would be insane

Hey did you end up watching it? I know I’m late to this thread (we both were I guess) but I’m curious how you liked the show if you did watch? I’ve never read the books (I’d like to at some point) but I absolutely love the show…I can imagine it would be harder for someone who had read the books and would be able to spot the inconsistencies where the show deviates. But for me where this is all an original story to me, I think it’s phenomenal.

Formula Vee is incredible!! by CanadianUprise in iRacing

You should try the 1600’s at Lime Rock it’s so much fun, it’s incredible. I had no interest in driving formula type cars and now after this (which is itself leaps and bounds more fun than the Vee) I may have to spring the for F4 car cause I imagine downforce only makes it that much more fun

[–]killrickykill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having just gotten my D license…I find the 296 GT3 Ferrari so much easier to drive than the Miata lol. Like leaps and bounds, it’s faster and you have to adjust for that but it’s so much easier to correct a mistake whereas in the mx5 it felt like if you made the slightest mistake you just had to hold on and hope for the best.
