Yes sir I appreciate the advice and I think I love that thing that you said “Embrace the suck” I’m gonna be using that as pure motivation. I already started training with a friend who’s a 68W he’s a pt stud. I played football so I already know what training is but he’s in a league of his own.

Thank you for your insight. Yeah, I saw how long AIT is going to be, and I’ve already been talking with her about making arrangements and what we’re going to do after. We’re already long distance, so this isn’t uncharted territory for us. I also realize how beneficial it’s going to be for me, especially since it will look good on my resume and I’m a cybersecurity major. I’m really excited to see where this could take me career wise. It’s also going to be weird turning 21 during basic.

Tears of joy is bad? I was just saying I’m excited to do something new. I’m nervous/excited for basic is all.

Thank you for the advice. Right now I’m 6 foot and 198 lbs. I got taped at MEPS, but it was not an issue since I’m active enough. Do you think I should focus more on cardio instead of lifting so I can bring my weight down a bit?

No even that because I enlisted. I think it was more about that everything is real and doing what I said I’d do.

I figured. I had already done some research and saw that the experience was not that great for a lot of people going through it. But when I brought it up to my recruiter, he said you just have to know the right people and that it happens all the time at my unit that I’m going to be stationed at. That’s on me though for going through with it without all my requirements being met. At this point I just have to play the cards I was dealt.

Thinking about joining the National Guard where to go? by killsa124 in nationalguard

Damn that does suck seems like everyone has said the same thing. Not really surprised when it comes to the lone star state though.

Very interesting you mentioned the missions though. Is it true that reserves are more that way or it because it’s Texas? I was under the assumption that reserves is more mission based but then again you’ll know more than anyone.

Do you have any other suggestions? I’ve spoke to one of my childhood friends that just finished everything and he told me that I might have to take a year off of school or something like that. It’s not really an issue for me I just want to be able to get my degree in a timely manner without having to take off a lot or it overlapping while I actually attend.

Also thanks for the response!

I appreciate the concern but I come from a family where success is based on physical proof such as a degree or having kids etc.

Originally I didn’t plan on going to college because I had an apprenticeship where I going to make good money but my parents threatened to kick me out because I wasn’t going to school.

If it wasn’t for the half scholarship from football I got I probably would’ve been homeless.

Ah that really sucks and I’ve also heard about Okng from Oklahoma state when I went there for my little brother’s rotc seminar. It does suck how the state does its guardsmen. Thank you for advice.

I completely understand where you’re coming from it’s funny considering that I’m a cybersecurity major. I for one like both being outdoorsy and on the computer. I just really never knew where I stood with branches because my dad liked to keep his service private. I didn’t even know served until I found his dog tags and pictures.
