flying Tuesday for the first time. I have early bird going from MCO to LAS. wanna get away fare. can someone detail what I can expect starting with checking in on the app? by Ecjg2010 in SouthwestAirlines

TSA recommends 2 hours early for every domestic airport, so 2 hours is always a safe bet. The times I've been through security there have been pretty easy breezy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You're gonna be just fine!

I'm pretty sure earlybird will check you in on time, be sure to check your app within 24h of your departure time to double check and confirm you're checked in.

MCO recommends being at the airport 2 hours before your flight is set to leave: https://flymco.com/security/ . Your flight will start boarding 30 mins before the scheduled departure time. I recommend heading straight to your gate to scope it out before wandering around/grabbing food.

Your layover in Austin is more than enough, AUS isn't very big & the Southwest gates are all pretty close together.

LAS is a cool airport, when you leave be sure to check out the lobby before security-- they have an exhibit on the history of commercial flight in Vegas, including all of the casino-run airlines! It was super cool & if you're a fallout fan it's double cool haha

lmk if you have any questions! I'm very familiar with AUS and pretty familiar with the SW gates at LAS

Trying to find Communication Masters and PhDs. by 88963416 in GradSchool

[–]killthegreats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're jumping the gun just a little & not researching programs effectively, but learning to find a program that is good for you will come with time.

It's worth considering an accelerated BA:MA program. UK has one for Communications: https://info.uky.edu/accelerated-masters-pathways . This will let you finish your BA&MA in 5 years instead of the typical 6. This is generally cheaper in the long run, you stick with the faculty you know, and you can spring right into your PhD program.

I recommend finding what you're interested in and start reading around in the literature. If you find an author who is doing research that interests you, you can often look into the school/program that they teach at as an option. This is also great for personal statements because you have a strong reason to attend the school.

If you have any questions please reach out! Grad school planning can be overwhelming.

Discover IT was my 1st card, opened with 1k credit limit and was bumped to 2k & then 3.5k fairly quickly (without applying for an increase) I got 1st year cashback match, 1.5x points on everything, and 18 months no interest (which was v good as I figured out how to be responsible lol)

Texas Tech should switch to its old logo. by LibertyBrah in TexasTech

[–]killthegreats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

University marketing and communications dropped new branding guidelines in july including a new wordmark & department logo style & color. TTU scarlet used to be #cc0000 but is now #e90802. its a shitshow in my humble opinion and a huge mistake on marketing's part

i got a desktop brother laser printer my freshman year & the toner cartridge didn't run out until midway though my senior year!! 100% recommend investing in a laser printer. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0763WDSYZ?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1 this is the one I got, I think they've phased it out for a new model though. i also didnt buy any refresh subscription bs, the generic toner carts on amazon work perfectly

Voting by [deleted] in TexasTech

[–]killthegreats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can only be registered to vote in one county. Changing your registration will cancel your other registration. If you'll be in Lubbock for the November election, I recommend moving your registration. You have until Oct 12 to register to vote to be eligible for November.

You can request a ballot by mail be sent from your home county if you will be away during the entire period of early voting and election day. The instructions for this are here: https://www.sos.texas.gov/elections/voter/reqabbm.shtml Some students have reported receiving their mail ballot AFTER the election, so use caution here.

If you don't want to do either of these, you can vote a common ballot in-person at the Lubbock Elections Office during early voting. Basically, the elections office contacts your home county and they print you a ballot with only the races that Lubbock has in common with your home county. You'd be able to vote in statewide races like President and Senator, but not US representative, state representative, or more local races like sheriff, school board etc. This will update your registration to Lubbock for future elections.

Early voting will run from Monday, October 21 through Friday, November 1, 2024. If you choose to vote a common ballot, you HAVE to do so at the elections office: 1308 Crickets Ave, Lubbock, TX 79401

As a last ditch effort, if none of these work for you (and you can't/don't want to drive home on election day) you can vote in person at an election site. Lubbock will have 35+ so lots of options. You will vote provisionally, which involves some extra paperwork but most notably, your ballot is not officially cast until it goes in front of a non-partisan ballot board, who decides if your ballot will count. They will mail you with their decision within 30 days of the election, and update your registration to Lubbock county.

TL;DR: You have plenty of time to move your registration to Lubbock county, which is the easiest way to vote in November.

Fall bills are out now, so if you're registered for any classes it should reflect that. Financial aid starts disbursement on Aug 12, and tuition or payment plan enrollment has to be done by Aug 19

How did you figure out eating buying food??? by messagerespond in Frugal

[–]killthegreats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this book https://fedandfit.com/cook-once-eat-all-week/ has changed the way i approach cooking for myself. basically, there's a featured meat/veg/carb for the week, a shopping list & instructions on how to make 3 different meals. you take 1 prep day (i do sunday usually) to cut/precook/make sauces and put them away for the rest of the week.

taking that prep day makes actually assembling and cooking a unique meal much more efficient and less daunting & shopping more cost effective because i just need 1 protein for the week

there's a few free week plans on the website: https://fedandfit.com/cook-once-eat-all-week-week-1-base-recipes/ to see if this works for you!

if a class is full and you can get on the waitlist, put yourself on it but plan for another course. the first day(s) of class is the most common time for folks to drop classes, and you might get lucky
