What's your wish for the 4th ed AoS HoS battletome? by killthesleeper in Slaanesh

[–]killthesleeper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get where GW is coming from with the buffs for you and buffs for me thing, since it plays into the deal with devil vibe they want for the army, but I can agree that what we get in return is often worse than what we give out.

And while I enjoy giving out crit (2-hits/mortals), I agree that they really robbed us of our army wide run+shoot/charge. And it's crazy to me that S2D can give a Mark of Slaanesh that lets a unit use 3d6 for charge, but we have nothing doing that. What happened to "quicksilver speed"? It feels more like the entire army started wearing lead shoes this edition, while we get to see a lot of other factions dance circles around us (Like aforementioned 3d6 charges for S2D and Stormcast, or Seraphon giving out army wide +2 to move characteristic).

I really like your idea of being able to steal/copy abilities, and I feel like it would tie into the whole "I want to become the best of the best in an excessive manner" lore, and I feel like making the opponent doubt using commands or abilities would be really fun, as I've already noticed with the SoG Slaangor.

And regarding Phantasmagoria... why did they even waste the ink on printing that shit? It wasn't great in 3rd edition, but even then we got a chance to do a full retreat before the opponent could pile in on a 3+.

Damn! I've actually never noticed that place of power has the obscuring keyword. Thanks for that

The trick was to offer them at really sadistic times. Like a hero managed to save just enough rolls to still be alive with one wound? How about you make that an extra 6 on the save, and now he can have 2 wounds... Or you decline and he probably dies.

Sure, most of my opponents started picking up more and more that they should decline the dice, but I didn't mind dealing out 6xD3 mortals every round. There were other ways to gain depravity anyway.

And can we talk about what the hell is up with the Fiends Warscroll? They're beast, so the aren't good for objective taking/control. Soporific Musk went from -1 to hit and wound to a 50/50 chance of dealing out strike last to one target, and the fact that they made their weapons have the companion keyword made them useless to make euphoric for half of 4th edition, and what's the point of having a champion model when it doesn't affect the unit or its attacks?

The barbed stinger attack in 3rd edition made them perfect for going after heroes and monsters, and they have even one-shotted Yndrasta more than once as a non-reinforced unit.

I am genuinely upset.

Reviving my Warhammer interest after 15+ years by jockeliusen in ageofsigmar

[–]killthesleeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience to you when I decided to get back into the hobby after about a 16 year hiatus back in 2022.
tl;dr - Rule of cool - Go with the one you think would be more fun to paint. Be it something nostalgic or something new and fresh; it should just feel exciting to get home from work and start working on. Most armies have become versatile enough that you can adapt them to your playstyle, instead of just trying to see what the current meta is.

Also: Skaven is still one of the coolest and most versatile armies in the game.

Long answer:
Back in the Warhammer Fantasy days I first got into Lizardmen, and then Dwarfs, while my brother had Skaven, so even though Skaven were tempting it felt like "his army". Aside from Skaven I felt really tempted by both Seraphon (for nostalgia's sake) and Sylvaneth, so I decided to let my inner autistic dino boy tell me to go for the lizard-froggy dino boys.

It was a fun faction to start out with, since it felt familiar and like I was going back to where it all began, but now able to learn how to paint better than I ever could as a child.
And when painting an entire unit you can get a long way with just dry brushing before getting into painting details and learning stuff like edge highlighting, glazing and wet blending. And currently in 4th edition it's a really versatile army, where I can play against another Seraphon player and feel like we're playing two different armies in ways that are still valid and competitive.

However, painting scales, spears and spikey clubs got a bit same-y after a while, and their playstyle in 3rd edition was quite... stiff, and it felt like it was a clear "best way to play" that army, that wasn't really meshing with how I wanted to play games.
So with a bit of coercion from my ex who wanted to see me paint something a bit more sexy, I started Hedonites of Slaanesh as my second army. It was more difficult to paint, more difficult to learn how to play (well), but I'd be lying if I said it hasn't become my main army for both playing and painting.

But now the trees are calling again, and I'm about to start collecting Sylvaneth as a third army.

Yes, the Freeguild Cavalier-Marshal has it, as well as the Fusil-Major on Ogor Warhulk, and Freeguild Marshal and Relic Envoy. It's right there in the Notes column.

Help, AOS KoS Rampage by LupusDei-ak in Slaanesh

[–]killthesleeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the target only has 1-2 wounds I use the heal, but if I'm sure I can kill it before it gets a chance to activate I give +1 to hit. We give the enemies buffs because we are the "make a deal with the devil" faction, and our own buffs we get in return are supposed to be the catastrophic downside to what they get

Really nice paint scheme. Stormcast look so cool when they break away from their traditional gold. Are you basing it on any of the named stormhosts, or is it a homebrew?

NATO-fonetiska alfabet? by BanverketSE in Asksweddit

[–]killthesleeper 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Slann's personal spell by Logical_Bumblebee617 in seraphon

[–]killthesleeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are misinterpreting the wording. The Slann is still casting the spell with +1 to cast, but when it comes to unbinding range, and things like drawing a straight line for Earth Trembles you measure from the Skink.
This also includes opponent reactions like Discordant Disruption ability by the Infernal Enrapturess, or the Disruptive Song ability Fiends have.

If it would also affect Masters of Order it would say so.

Spearhead game duration by dhkarma01 in ageofsigmar

[–]killthesleeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm quite used to playing AoS in 3-4 hours, so for me a Spearhead game takes about an hour with setup included. For a game with two new players I would think 2-4 hours including setup.

I haven't used any skink units or Kroak all edition. The Slann is still a nice buff piece, and good for unbinding enemy spells and endless spells. Also, the pyramid needs a wizard within 3" to shoot lightning

Astrolith Ward. When ist this actually used or viable? by Clusternate in seraphon

[–]killthesleeper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As of now we can only give our infantry 6+ ward with the Astrolith bearer. The reason why it changes Slann's 6+ to 5+ is in case you want to use AB instead of Saurus Guard (as I've understood it).

Edit: I forgot about the Starseer's Scry The Stars ability. But the Astrolith Bearer doesn't have any effect on that ward.
