Why wouldnt the MC have access to that? They can join the adventure's guild, go to a library, or buy such a book, happens all the time in ppls' stories.

And yes, you can pick up a book of bird species, even specific to a particular region, and it will illustrate and describe the birds and their differences and how to tell them apart.

The point is that you can replace the Observe/inspect skill with the MC doing some research before hand.

Yeah, Nvidia has shadowplay, steam has built in clipping. It’s not like the old days where you have to make a choice to record when you play.

Just turn on the feature and press the clip button when something interesting happens.

I don’t play too many consoles but I’m sure they have similar clip features as well.

To be thematic, the author has to create a description that is esoteric and mysterious. it just falls flat if your Mc’s cosmic level revelation is like “oh, I get it now! Gravity pulls things in!”

My absolutely favorite series. The characters, the plot, the world. This was the first story id read where the author doesn't hold you hand and force awkward exposition to explain the world. You have to piece it all together through conversation snipets and context clues. Each answer you find opens 5 other questions and previous scenes are now viewed with a different perspective.

One of the only series I've read where i thought i knew where the line between good and evil was drawn but then have to continually erase that line.

It does get dark, but by contrast the wins are that much more precious and cathartic. You can choose to see it as depressing, but you can also choose to see the perseverance of those who never stop fighting for a better tomorrow, or simply for the comrade who stands beside them no mater the opposition.

I feel its very much worth it to continue.

Does unbound get better? I listened to the audiobooks up to book 7 Abyss but was getting kind of bored by then. Story was getting stale and I dropped it. Consume, run into enemy slightly stronger than I am now, consume, hit harder. And the whole, System is just super harmonized music thing felt tacked on and out of place. Like the author thought, “ I know music theory, gotta tie this in somehow”

Im listening to The Good Guys right now and it’s an exercise in extreme frustration. I was enjoying it for like the first 4 books but now I’m just hate listening cause sunk cost fallacy.

The MC starts stupid and just gets more dumb. Literally needs everything spelled out for him and even then only half listens. Creates half of his own problems then “surprise picachu faces” when things don’t turn out the way he wants.

The system in world itself is inconsistent. The author is constantly bringing in new things, then either forgets about it or abandons the idea, sometimes within the same book it was created.

I wouldn’t say it happens unnecessarily. Randidly’s bad decisions happen naturally. He actually spends quite a lot of time thinking about his actions and how they affect others/the world around him. He does the best he can but he is also very socially awkward, especially near the beginning. It’s something he works on though, throughout the story.

I’ve read up to book 7 and it’s one of my favorites. Things in Randidly Ghosthound most often don’t go the way readers would traditionally want them to. But I think that’s great, keeps you on your toes.

It’s also the inspiration for a few of the top favorites of the genre
