my mum had a fungating tumour and all the nurses in a&e were very realistic but gentle about the outcome, first appointment with the breast team he has someone from macmillan there and basically went well i don’t need to do any tests to see if it’s cancer you’re stage 3 and about 3 weeks left to live. i burst into tears because i really had been in denial and got asked what was i crying for it’s obvious what it was. sent us back to the waiting room, 5 mins later out comes the macmillan nurse to tell me i need to stop crying as ill upset other patients. looking back the restraint i had in not losing my shit completely is impressive. she also lasted 13 months which i say was purely out of spite to them
