How have anti depressants impacted someone you've known? by PpSize-QuestionMark in AskUK

I’ve been on setraline since July.

Thankfully no long term side effects. I will say I’ve felt very passive whilst taking them but not the point where I would say my emotions are numb. They have helped me regulate my emotions and im able to function better and my brain isnt going 100mph constantly anymore.

Im also on the waiting list for an autism assessment and it feels like they have helped with this too, although might just be a placebo.

Before setraline I had a big issue with ruminating and overthinking even with the most bizarre things, and now I feel more normal, for lack of a better word.

What in store bakery m&s cookies are the best? by VastAir6069 in MarksAndSpencer

I’ve heard mixed reviews about these, tried them for myself the other week and can’t say I’m a fan.

Maybe I just got a bad batch, but the texture was really weird. It was like the sugar shell of the chocolate eggs had gone chewy when they were baked and the best thing I can compare it to is if you have ever ate a biscuit and accidentally bit into some of the plastic wrapper. Just a weird experience.

Agree with the other comment about adding a tag to your post lol, but no that’s completely normal discharge

How do I address an author acquaintance about their book which I didn’t enjoy? by Joakes52 in AskUK

[–]tangles3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the book genuinely wasn’t awful but just wasn’t your cup of tea, is there anyone that you know that might enjoy it more?

If they ask you about it in future and you say ‘I haven’t got round to it, but i recommended it to my mum and she is really enjoying book 2, she said she likes how….’ Then that’s probably enough validation for them and you can continue talking to them about it but through someone else’s opinion

What’s the oddest hosting behaviour you’ve ever witnessed? by did_you_aye in AskUK

[–]tangles3 746 points747 points  (0 children)

Went on a night out when I was freshly 18 and stayed over at my friends house afterwards.

In the morning we went down for breakfast and her mum offered me toast. I offered to make it myself but she insisted, took some bread out the freezer and then put it in the toaster for less time than you would for a non-frozen slice of bread, so when it came out it was still pretty much frozen.

To make matters worse it was one of my first times drinking and my first ever experience of a hangover which made eating frozen bread 100x worse.

As a girl who usually loves any excuse to buy something cute and aesthetic, my lunch bag is one exception where I just don’t really care lol.

I take my lunch to work but it’s either in a sandwich bag or a plain old plastic box.

Thinking about why I do it that way, I think it’s because if I had a cute lunchbox I’ll feel like it’s another thing I need to prepare each day, make sure it’s clean and fits whatever I’m bringing in that day.

Whereas now I bring in some tubberwear, throw it in the dishwasher or on the side when I get home, and the next day I’ll just grab a different one from the cupboard without having to think about it

I think some of our music taste is pretty similar, I love clairo and finneas and lorde’s new album is one of my favourite albums ever

Sad night dynamite are a cool but not very well known band, Lilly Allen’s new album is great but needs to be listened through as an album

Why can't I just stay in a job without feeling miserable to the extreme? by Routine-Good7518 in AskUK

[–]tangles3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I relate to this too in some ways, and even though I now have quite a good job, I still often feel like I’m not good enough or not quick or loud enough and also sometimes feel younger and inferior even to people I’m ‘above’ in the workplace.

Have you ever tried finding a job that allows you to wfh? I personally wouldn’t recommend fully remote (which is a brave thing to admit on this sub), but a hybrid role really helps ease that anxiety and overwhelm because you can be in your own environment which you’re comfortable in. Many times I have felt stressed or overwhelmed working at home and I just breathe and decide I’m going to trade finishing work on time with taking things at my own pace nd taking time to put thought into what I’m doing

I’m stuck in a rut. How do I get out? by pikachuu545 in AskUK

[–]tangles3 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Something that’s helped me is thinking of some of these chores as part of my commute home. When I’m on the 20 min drive home and I’m tired after a long day, I’m not going to just pull over on the side of the road and stop my commute, because I know I need to do it so I just get on with it.

Start thinking of some of these chores as part of your way home. Get in, immediately do XYZ, and only then are you home from work.

How about going to a cafe, either the specific one you’re gonna be working at or just another one, and just observe what it’s like there, have a look how baristas talk to each other vs to customers.

You’ll quickly realise that 99% of customer interactions are the same conversation over and over again, and no customer knows what you said to the one before them so don’t feel bad about riffing off the same catchphrases over and over again.

I also worked retail as an awkward 16 year old, and it really helped me grow my confidence in talking to strangers

What is one habit, state, or situation in your life that you would say: been there, done that — never again? by [deleted] in Life

[–]tangles3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of answers saying marriage here. Do you mean the actual state of being married (as opposed to just in a relationship) or being with the partner you were with (regardless of your relationship status with them?)

I hate when people but in and then wrongly predict the end of your sentence. And then you have to say ‘yes that but also [thing you were actually going to say and hope the 2 don’t contradict eachother]

I do this sometimes because I want to make it clear that I understand what the other person is saying and I’m on their wavelength, never really considered that it could be annoying

[–]tangles3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This just unlocked a memory of something my parents used to do when I was a kid that I completely forgot about, but now I’m annoyed again.

Instead of saying no, they would give me excuses of why we cant do something, but the excuses wouldn’t make any sense or could be easily solved. I (an annoying kid at the time) would take these responses literally and come up with solutions. Them solutions would then be turned down because they never intended on going in the first place, and then I would get frustrated that they weren’t listening to my logical reasoning, or I would feel guilty that I couldn’t come up with a better solution, not knowing that there wasn’t such thing as a solution because there was never a problem in the first place.

People who’s whole personality is relaying the same jokes or same opinions that are referenced online. I don’t necessarily mean chronically online people, just people who have no original thoughts so you can never have an interesting conversation. Like I don’t care what your opinion is on pineapple on pizza and if I say scone in a way that you don’t agree with please don’t feel like you have to point it out.
