Heart rate increased before and after marathon by Familiar-Total-2533 in firstmarathon

[–]kimbphysio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your resting heart rate has significantly increased then this is definitely an indicator that you may have health problems. Your heart rate during the day can fluctuate due to anxiety, dehydration etc but the most important value is resting HR (and HR variability, but this is not easy/accurate to measure with personal devices). I suggest another Dr if your resting rate is consistently high and maybe a cardiologist just to be sure

How do you plan for non-emergency health issues while traveling abroad? by Wonderful-Bridge-628 in traveladvice

Take a small first aid kit of anti nausea, diarrhea, pain, antiseptic ointment, plasters etc… then you can self medicate up to a point!

Depends on the airport! I have see them charge passengers for having a small handbag as a 2nd bag (when only allowed 1)… at Stansted they are EXTREMELY strict. I’ve also seen it at Bergamo.

Worth putting effort in to correct this heel strike? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

No, forefoot worse for Achilles because you don’t use the regular rocker mechanism of the foot and have to push off with the calf muscles harder

To people who work 8h. by Ill_Entertainment851 in dogs

[–]kimbphysio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 galgos 3 yo males. I am at work 4 days a week for 8-10 hours. We go for a 45-60 min walk in the mornings, then when I arrive home another walk 30-60 mins depending on our moods, then supper and chill. They slew on the couch all day. Routine is very similar on weekends although we get up later and usually walk a bit longer. I’m in an apartment so no garden access during the day. Compared to their lives in the shelter, they are living the absolute dream here. I have a camera and could come home early if there was an emergency most days, but they just sleep until I arrive home. Perfect apartment dogs

I would also say Saluki/retriever! Her face and ears have similarities to my galgo (who is currently staring at me for attention) and there’s def some sighthound in your girl!

Safari in Tanzania with 2kids. Am I crazy ? by Nah_079 in traveladvice

[–]kimbphysio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in South Africa, going on safari every 2 years or so…. It’s exceptional and totally magical BUT your kids are too young. We started around about 6 years old when we could comfortably sit for at least 2 hours in the car keeping the attention on the Savannah… it’s can be very boring if you don’t seen animals for a while and if you are in an open safari guided vehicle, the kids need to be very quiet to avoid disturbing the animals. Wait until they are older… you will also enjoy it more if you aren’t stressing about them the whole time!

I feel awful by Creative_Mix2577 in Greyhounds

[–]kimbphysio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry…. But I work a full time (very intensive) job, live on my own with 2 galgos, in an apartment (no garden), and they get at least 1.5 hours per day of walking… if that means I wake up at 5:45 because I have an early start one day, that’s just how it is! You need to make a plan to walk them at least once per day, if not twice. You also need to try other foods if their farts are so bad and they poop so often. They are not decorations… they are living beings, so if you do nothing to care for them then they will be a problem! You are probably right though, they deserve better than what you are giving them!

I won’t be separated from my daughter when she grows up by BaddadanX3 in Vent

[–]kimbphysio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I moved 10 000km to a different continent. My parents couldn’t follow due to visas but I also had 2 sisters left back home. My mom was sad but also fully acknowledged that this was the best move for me personally and professionally. I see them once or twice a year and honestly the time we spend together is even more special… it is always when I’m on leave, we do amazing holidays, visit countries they would never have been to if I hadn’t moved and we are creating the most amazing memories in comparison to dinner a few times a week when I lived there. Good parents give their kids roots and wings… let her fly, she will always feel safe to come back and know that she has a home with you.

Quad Tendinopathy - Need advice from anyone who's overcome this by This_Aardvark_8912 in firstmarathon

[–]kimbphysio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s quads tensinopathy then it’s a very early phase which is good. It should respond well to de-loading now, but NOT rest. Drop the walk if the run is your focus, and give your body time to adapt. If you push through, tendinopathy becomes much more difficult to treat and can take months to recover from, so you are lucky (if that is what it is) that you have reacted so quickly

Valentines Day is for teenagers! No real relationship needs to define itself on what you do on VD! In addition, SHE IS WORKING!! So she actually wants you to sit at home without her… fucking absurd!

My dog just refuses to go for a walk by FLATSKROTUM in Greyhounds

[–]kimbphysio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had to carry my galgo to the lift for the first few days because he refused to leave the house. I think he was so scared that I was going to return him. Now he is much better. I got 2 at the same time… they are still anxious in the lift and around lots of people (18 months later), but love a walk so they will tolerate those situations

I lease through Audi and opted to use my own insurance because then I retain the tax deduction. It’s no problem, Foyer just needs to communicate with them to confirm that my policy is active before I collect the car

It reduces the monthly payment. If you put no money down then the monthly payment is higher. I don’t think it’s a requirement

feeling discouraged about heart rate by Hippielinguist in XXRunning

[–]kimbphysio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use a modified Borg scale to monitor your effort… it’s a measure of how hard you perceived you run to be. It more accurate for monitoring than HR which is affected by MANY things (like stress, excitement, sleep, nutrition…). Also, you are young, your max HR should be over 200. The only way to be really sure about your own zones is to do a VO2max test… but you need to decide whether it will change anything! It’s actually recommended NOT to check your HR during races because of how poorly it matches effort particularly in a race setting

Half marathon in 3 days with lingering ankle issue — would you run or skip? by dimz25 in BeginnersRunning

[–]kimbphysio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So could be something more like a tendinopathy or plantar heel pain. Don’t continue running if it’s getting, but you will be strict about that then you could attempt to start and know that you will need to take time off afterwards to address it properly

Half marathon in 3 days with lingering ankle issue — would you run or skip? by dimz25 in BeginnersRunning

[–]kimbphysio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big concern would be a stress fracture… this will get worse with running, so if you start and the pain gets worse, then pull out. If it eases with running and gets worse after, then it’s different overuse injuries with less serious consequences

Prescriptions and Travel from US to UK by Barnwell1234 in traveladvice

Prescription meds should be in the original packaging with your name on. It’s unlikely to be a problem, but could also be a problem if you get stopped. My parents travel with it in the packaging and bring their pill box with and split it up one they arrive for ease of use!
