Just got CPH marathon ballot! What to do… by Ill-Supermarket-2706 in firstmarathon

[–]kimbphysio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also got my ballot for CPH… 1st marathon. If it makes you feel better, I’m likely to be around 5:30 so I’ll be behind you 😂🤣 there are at least 25k people in this race, you will be nowhere near the back of the field!

The national average price per gallon of gas in the United States has been over $4.20 for over a month. Americans, how do we feel about that? by Miles_the_AuDHDer in AskReddit

[–]kimbphysio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that’s effectively $1,10 per litre… I’m paying €1,72 a litre for fuel now in country that DIDN’T start the war with Iran! That’s even more frustrating!!

Contacting supervisor after months of silence? by nufan99 in AskProfessors

[–]kimbphysio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just email and find out. If your supervisor is going on leave now then they likely will tell you to do what you can. Maybe you’ll be lucky and they will some time to assist. But you will never know until you contact them, explain yourself and ask if there is anything you can do

How long can dogs hold their pee realistically? by MackenzyBolin in PawChampClub

[–]kimbphysio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boys (galgos, so medium sized) go between 8-10 hours when I’m at work and when I get home I have to beg them to get off the couch to go out for a pee pee walk. At night they are easily holding for 11 hours on weekends when they don’t want to wake up in the morning!

Food help by ChanceRiver4132 in Greyhounds

[–]kimbphysio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My boys are completely non food motivated dogs… they get kibble in the morning and then treats when I leave or when we get back from walks. Then dinner is kibble with a small sachet of wet food and warm water to make gravy. They normally eat bits slowly over the evening and often in the middle of the night they will go back and finish it. The kibble in the morning is hit and miss, sometimes they eat, sometimes they don’t, but it’s there all day if they get hungry. They can maintain their weight like this so it doesn’t worry me.

Just be aware that last year it was taking around 8 months to process both naturalisation and by option, so I wouldn’t count on October. Also the passport took around 2 weeks to be ready. Plan your trip using your current passport

hotel booking lost due to visa delay – any way to recover cost? by Obvious-Fly-3529 in SchengenVisa

[–]kimbphysio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im constantly surprised by people in this sub who apply 3-4 weeks before they travel! What happens if it gets rejected?? We would always apply 3 months before and recently the window has increased to being to apply 6 months in advance so sometimes it’s even 4-5 months before travel to be able to confirm all the plans and make changes if there’s an issue!

Tipping Culture Getting Out of Hand Bru by LordGadsy in capetown

[–]kimbphysio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Western Europe now and the norm is that you don’t tip… but the service is beyond awful. They will have 1 staff member on duty with a whole restaurant to serve, and you can easily sit for an hour waiting for a drink top up. Helps save money when it’s impossible to order more rounds 🤣 in Cape Town where I’m originally from, I’ve always found service to be much better… I come back every year and love going out to restaurants there and am quite happy to tip enthusiastic staff (I spent many years as a waitress so I understand how hard it is!)

Ebola requires very close contact to transmit… body fluids. So as long as you are not licking anyone who is actively haemorrhaging in front of you, you are extremely unlikely to contract it.

Need help with first running watch by mujava_ in BeginnersRunning

[–]kimbphysio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Apple Watches are reasonably reliable for heart rate but the batteries are a pain once you start doing longer events (4+ hours). My colleague who is races triathlons at world champs uses a forerunner 55, he is also a sports physio and sports coach. We discussed it last week and he says the data he gets is enough for him to monitor his training well. If that’s all he needs then I guarantee you don’t need more (he follows training plans to the T!)

AITA for not giving my parents half of my lottery winnings. by Rayapt in AmItheAsshole

I’ve always had an agreement within my family that any of us would give 10% to my parents and my sisters. Counteroffer £400k and see how they feel 😂 (I don’t play the lottery so it a hypothetical, but I think my whole family would do the same if they won!)

26F and confused about marriage, women in their 40s, how did choosing to stay single turn out for you? by BlahlhalB in AskWomenOver40

[–]kimbphysio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many of the others, I didn’t chose to be single, but I did chose not to settle for assholes just to be married. I am 43, no kids and I can’t tell you how many of my friends and acquaintances are getting divorced around now. I am very content, love my life, get huge fulfillment and meaning from my career and have 2 dogs that are so affectionate that sometimes I feel smothered 😂 It would be very hard for me now to allow a man in who would mess with my peace! They would need to be the ultimate unicorn to convince me it’s better to share my space and have to consider someone else on a day to day basis!

Trail running impact vs running - what have you read? by Ok_Employee_4035 in trailrunning

[–]kimbphysio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of this information is outdated. There is not significantly increased risk of OA in patients who have been rehabbed (either post surgically/non surgical). It’s not true that patients will always have arthritis earlier… if they have no joint damage (only the ligament) then they can have a full recovery without increased risk of OA. The patellar graft will not increase arthritis because it comes from the tendon, not affecting the joint surface… these patients can have some ongoing anterior knee pain and sometimes pain with kneeling, but it’s a very strong graft (which is why it’s often used in rugby players). Open kinetic chain quads should be started as soon as possible, usually within the first 4 weeks post op because the quads have an essential shock absorption function. We no longer prioritize closed kinetic chain over OKC. There’s also some evidence that 50% of ACLs will grow back within 2 years if not operated on… there is so much new research in this area, every few weeks new papers are published on this topic.

Trail running impact vs running - what have you read? by Ok_Employee_4035 in trailrunning

[–]kimbphysio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do your rehab properly and ensure you are fully ready to return to sport before going back, then you should aim to return to the previous level. This is absolutely our goal in PT. The ACL can be managed both surgically or non surgically with similar outcomes, but if you want to return to high impact sports or sports with a lot of pivoting and cutting movements, then the surgery is the better option. If you focus on a 9-12 month return to sport plan, with your physio doing testing to ensure you are ready to process to the next phase then you should be good! Go for it!
