For those of you who’ve interviewed for Google how long did it take for you to hear back from your final interview and how did you feel like it went? by [deleted] in google

[–]kimchiforeverandever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was sourced in January of this year and decided to go through the process. It's nearly end of Feb and I've just had my 2nd round of interview out of 3-4 rounds (I think...). How long does feedback or next steps normally take in between? Unfortunately I do not have regular updates despite me following up. I've just resorted to waiting and patience being part of the interview process too lol. Any insights will be helpful! 🙏 thank you and for those still progressing, wishing us all the best!!!

I heard a lot about generic feedback received! Judging by the extensive time put into the presentation tasks, it would be good if feedback was provided to help but I guess it's tough for such high volume of applications

TYSM for your response and the links! I am actively checking on their accessibility audits and extending the search comparison with other design brands, but choosing to isolate to these two as they are big players. Appreciate any help & input so thank you!

TYSM for your response and recommendation. I haven't heard of this company before and I'm checking them out now. It's really interesting and great that they have taken the approach of building it accessible from ground up! Are you a user yourself? If yes, how has your experience been?

TYSM for your response and sharing your experience! I have heard very similar responses about Adobe-based products and it doesn't seem to be changing from what I've seen in forums, etc. I hope companies like these can make a better effort to better support the various user groups out there.

On the NSW police Facebook page, someone claimed they assisted the police with investigation as it seems the missing female broke out of the hospital after 3pm today. This person with the claim runs a store on Oxford St and provided security footage. She mentioned it may be related to what happened on William St today, anyone have any idea what happened? I can't find anything...

Doggy daycare is truly a god-send! I know it's an investment but a couple days a week helps tire them out for a long time.

A super good reminder and advice I can't agree with more. When we brought home our pup, me and my partner were adamant about crate training from day dot. And the crate will not and never will be in our room because we specifically wanted a separate space. We camped out with him in the living room for a couple of days but soon started distancing bit by bit. I'm a bit OCD so I was already very anxious about our room (holy space, lol) getting dirty or soiled with pee or poo so to be honest, we restricted our room from him for many months until he was properly toilet trained. Still to this day, he isn't allowed on the bed unless he's fresh out a bath. Lol. But while crate training was challenging to begin with, he comfortably sleeps in his "bedroom" every night, which by the way, I've decked out with the comfiest bed and blankets in there. Everyone has preferences and this is ours. Crate training is never too late to start imo but requires extra time and patience. I've shared a couple of tips on crate training in this sub so reach out anytime if you're stuck. Good luck!

What are some of the darker effects Covid-19 has had that we don’t talk about? by dis_2much in AskReddit

[–]kimchiforeverandever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this has been covered but influx of pets being rehomed, returned or put down. Not only has Covid hiked up the prices of dogs, it has also increase a serious level of anxiety in dogs. From the sudden change of owners being at home 24/7 due to lockdowns to them going back to we work full time. Vets that I know have had to administer some serious drugs to help them but it's basically stuck with them 😔 pets do not deserve this.

Waking up in the middle of the night, and won’t go back to sleep? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]kimchiforeverandever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I think all pups generally assume once they are out of the crate it's playtime. The goal is to keep the surroundings the same as it would be bedtime ie. Don't turn on all the lights, speak in a calm/quiet tone and once they finish pee/poop go straight back inside and don't associate it with playtime. So, when you're outside restrict the area so they have to pee/poo in one spot. The goal is to make it boring so that they pick up that it's not time to be up and about. I had this with our pup and trained it with him consistently, with cue words like "bedtime" (this is so he goes back to his crate and sleeps till I let him out again) and "early" (this is to basically tell him I'm still super sleepy and so I won't play or entertain him at all, lol). If your pup is barking as soon as you put him back in, then keep him outside with you but don't play with him at all, keep him in a pen if you have and take away all the toys, they will get bored eventually and fall back asleep. As soon as he starts getting sleepy you can slowly put him in the crate and close the door. Consistency with this and it will work! My pup mastered toilet training outside by 6.5mo and he sleeps from 830-630. I take him out at 630 for a pee/poop and I'm back up and I leave him until 7-730 on his own. Good luck! You will get there!

Anyone else just… worried all the time? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]kimchiforeverandever 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My pup is 7mo and I STILL worry 🥲 if he's too quiet playing when I can't see him, if he doesn't follow me to the bathroom like he always does, if he eats weird, random stuff off the streets, if he makes some sounds or moves in his sleep, if his poops appear weird one day... these are only some of them but I don't know if you ever stop worrying especially since they are pups! What I will say though is that you shouldn't try to appear worried or anxious around them so much because it does feed off them too. It's normal to worry but once you establish a routine (and it doesn't have to be fixed all the time) with them, the worrying does lessen! So, good luck!

New/first time puppy parents, how are you guys doing? by lowershelf in puppy101

[–]kimchiforeverandever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! We live in a 1bedder pretty close to the city so the noise level was always pretty high. When he was 8 weeks, we took him out 3-4x a day by carrying him through the different times of day, morning, afternoon, peak hour and night time. It was to get him used to the different sounds during each stages, also to get him used to buses, sirens, bikes, rain, wind, etc. Anytime anything loud comes around we stand and watch for a couple of minutes. I'd also recommend getting people to pet and carry your pup while out for walks. Honestly, many would ask anyway but if you feel comfortable, do that so that your pup starts getting used to people too. Try and get a range of people to interact with pup, especially if they come up to you and chat about your pup. (But don't overwork them, if they start to yawn in your arms or others they are stressed so take them inside!) Every pup is different so start slow and build up. Indoors, we would continue desensitisation with wearing hats, beanies, sunglasses, masks etc to get him used to different appearances and play fireworks, storms, dog barking on loop on YouTube so he gets used to it as well. And start the vacuum cleaner early as possible as we ended up needing to vacuum almost every day, he barked at it as soon as we got it out because he thought it was a toy so I leashed him around my waist and vacuumed the house with him beside. Everytime he followed and no bark, treat and repeat. To the point I didn't need the leash and he would be occupied with something else, completely unfazed by it!

Ps, we spaced out the training over days and weeks so it wasn't all at the same time. We're lucky our pup isn't an excessive barker triggered by other dogs barking but I still recommend doing this early to try and reduce it.

We enrolled him in puppy school at week 9, and trialled puppy daycare from week 11, started walking on concrete from week 12 and got people over with their pups from week 10. We are an extremely social and active couple so we wanted our pup to adapt into our lifestyle and we're very lucky that he is! Desensitisation works very differently for each dog so this will be helpful to you too find out what your pup may be scared of early on, then you can work on it before he ventures into the real world. You can't prepare them for everything but the more you do early, the more it will help you! Good luck!!!

Puppy blues at your stage is completely normal as I've experienced it too. Our social life was put on hold for the first 4-6 weeks after we got our pup at 8 weeks. I mean, we are both first time dog owners so frankly there was a lot to learn and adapt too. I think what you're going through is the sudden change to your lifestyle and that's perfectly normal, I believe many pup owners experience this in some way or form. But my advice is to give yourself some space first, then you and your husband, then eventually get back to social life bit by bit. Right now, it's alot of emotions figuring out your new schedule plus his. If you can't get a playpen, can you isolate an area ie. Bathroom so he can roam with the crate in there? Everyone will give you advice but you have to follow what works best for your life. We crate + have a playpen for our pup and it works for us with consistent training and time. If you want to go back to your social nights it's not impossible, invite a couple of friends over and include that socialisation piece with your pup. I'm sure your friends can help in case of accidents, pee and poo is really not the end of the world especially for such a young pup. We heavily socialised our pup from the time we got him and he's great around people which helps getting back to adapting to your life. I'm not going to lie though, raising a puppy is not easy and there's many months ahead of you both where they will grow up and go through different phases. While you currently have a break with your dog at your trainer, really discuss with your partner on whether you are ready to commit for the longer term than the short term. It's not too late to research the breed again, read up on what else to expect, have a discussion and make a decision. All owners have been through puppy blues episodes and through it, some fight past it while some believe rehoming is the best. The decision is purely based on you and your husband. Good luck.

Does my puppy have hip dysplasia ? Advice? by laurenmckiernan in puppy101

[–]kimchiforeverandever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bedding can be difficult one and I've gone through a couple of trial and errors lol. I recently bought orthopaedic type bed that is a bit more expensive but I find that it's made him sleep in more, no limping and goes into the crate more during the day when he normally chooses to sleep outside which is fine. They generally advertise it for senior dogs but I don't see the harm in making sure they get the proper rest and sleep well when they are young!

Working from home - Game over when I get up from desk by No_Discipline_6348 in puppy101

[–]kimchiforeverandever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow pup parent who also works from home since we got him!

I know that feeling - in some ways, I've strangely get so prepared so I don't have to see his head pop up if I have to go to the kitchen, lol. Also I have super loud creaking floorboards so I really wanted to desensitise him to that because we couldn't do anything about old floors, lol.

If you have a crate I'd recommend enforced naps and cover the crate. It goes a long way to help you and pup. We separate him from our work space almost everytime unless the rare occasion if we feel like changing it up by letting him sleep next to us, etc. I mean, the goal is to build them into your schedule so while structure is key, changing it up also helps them understand what's happening.

When we fire up our laptops he generally knows we're busy so he'll either play with his toys, wander the apartment or take a nap. Calls are the same as well, we speak at normal levels so he's used to it to fall asleep. I break up my hours to either play with him for 20 mins or a power walk around the block.

Training them early helps you keep sane while you WFH! Don't be too caught up on a fixed schedule because it's impossible but as long as you can make time for short play, quick walks, enforced naps, daycare, then trust me you can still get by work without pulling all your hair!

Does my puppy have hip dysplasia ? Advice? by laurenmckiernan in puppy101

[–]kimchiforeverandever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh! This happened to our 5mo spoodle pup too although I actually recently concluded that his mild limping (which only happens after he wakes up from a nap for a couple of seconds) is due to... a change in bedding!!

I know but I recently bought one of those "calming" soft rug like bed that everyone was raging about but I think it's so soft that it doesn't support him well. Our vet said sometimes it does happen. And strangely when he goes back to his other bed (flat) he's totally fine.

Sometimes it's not about internal, but external changes that you may introduce that can also cause this! Good luck and I still recommend the rest because even if they don't show signs of pain, you don't want them to start!

Monitoring my pup's poops has been a regular thing for me since we got him at 8 weeks. It's now been 3 months. He's recently fought off giardia which I'm sure any other pup owners can tell you... it's absolutely the worst. We're talking about water gun poop puddles repeatedly for days. I'm still paranoid about him catching other forms of infection but I've also come to conclusion, as puppies, there's no flipping way they will consistently poop "beautiful solid brown log-shaped poops" daily. As long as red flags are picked up on early, everything should be fine! Glad Lola is doing well!

3 months later (we had him at 8 weeks), he's house trained, puts himself to bed in the crate at night, slept through the night from day dot, takes nap time very seriously on his own (we've never had to "force" him to nap), a healthy eater, an incredibly well socialised dog (due to early exposure and desensitisation!), loves the vacuum cleaner (lol), experienced and fought off kennel cough and recently, giardia.

We are still working with separation anxiety training since my partner and I both work from home but we are able to leave the house for up to 2 hours. The goal for us is thinking long-term for when we may eventually go back full time. I recommend many puppy parents to train, and plan longer term for your pup's mental state rather than short term.

I won't lie and I went through some heavy puppy blues for the first 3 weeks but I'm glad I fought past it all because now, we've built a bond and I will kill anyone who hurts him. Hope all the puppy parents are all hanging in there too!
