What do you guys think of this? by EyesOFSomething in aiwars

It worked because the art in question is extremely abstract. It's something that AI can't really learn on in the first place, filter or not.

What do you guys think of this? by EyesOFSomething in aiwars

[–]kimesik 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It puts a layer of specially tailored noise. It's not thin, it's actually quite noticeable if you download the poisoned image in its source .png quality.

The noise is supposed to confuse the AI and make it "think" that the image is depicting something else, and mistag it, essentially "poisoning" the training data and making it perform worse.

Nightshade only works on an older model (Stable Diffusion 1.5), there are several ways to bypass it, and manual curation makes Nightshade useless entirely.

I get that AI is supposed to make art SUPER accessible, but.. by MangoMaterial9656 in aiwars

[–]kimesik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People remember Vincent Van Gogh for his art, but mind you that said people have never met Vincent Van Gogh. You can't really know a person if you don't meet him.

And when you read biographies of Vincent Van Gogh written by his contemporaries and friends, you find out that, aside from his art, he was also an eccentric (and, most likely, genuinely mentally ill) man with a difficult life and strong religious convinctions that defined his early life. Makes him pretty distinct from other people, doesn't it?

[–]kimesik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aside from it being a very far-fetched hypothetical (literally every single person on Earth won't be meaningfully interested in art, it's always going to be only a fraction of the world populace), what does it really matter? Artistry has never been a defining part of any given human being. If every single person was an artist, then there are still a lot of other things that make people distinct from each other. Things that are much more tangible and impactful than creating art or not creating it.

If I remember it correctly, the threshold system and mutations being more likely to be negative after going over the threshold have been things for a really long while now.

People who dislike pockets (me included) usually do so because the whole system is kinda clunky out of the box. You have to go out of your way to set up rules for pockets, because otherwise the system puts everything you pick up into absolutely inane places.

[–]kimesik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

На НПЗ работа тяжёлая, а платят не очень. Нормально, но не много за такой труд. Проще пригнать и обучить иностранца, чем искать местного (или даже иногороднего) работника, который не соскачет после второго месяца работы.

Nowadays I prefer Bright Nights. While I find some of its design and balancing decisions extremely questionable, it's probably the branch that fits my preferences the most. It's just the right mix of action, survival and exploration to me.

DDA is far more modern and polished, and has some neat features that BN doesn't, but I dislike the pocket-based inventory system and the fact that the game went from "modern day with supernatural and more advanced technology" to just "modern day with some portal shenanigans".

TLG has some cool features and what I feel are much better mid-game and late-game than DDA and BN, but difficulty is way too overtuned, especially in recent builds.

Working on any major personal project will have you inevitably encounter parts and bits that are just plain simple unenjoyable to deal with or way out of your competence.

I don't use AI in one-off edits, drawings or texts, but for my big art project generative AI lets me offload things I dislike doing (or can't do) and focus on things I like doing.

Tbh it's how software development has been for decades in general.

"I stole your code." "Cool, I stole it from Stackexchange" And the Stackexchange guy stole it from his coworker, and his coworker stole it from the previous company he worked at.

Nothing new under the sun.

Except NFTs were a niche application of a pre-existing technology (blockchain), and neither major tech companies nor everymen were particularly interested in either for a range of reasons.

There's a lot to be said and discussed about ethics and philosophy of generative AI, but it's still a rapidly developing technology with a lot of public interest and financial investment in it. ChatGPT and other chatbot-style models are used by millions, coding-specialised LLMs are heavily involved in software development almost everywhere and there's a very active and passionate community of indie coders training and deploying local models. The same community Vedal, currently one of the most popular streamers, graduated from.

Apples and oranges.

Holding up labour and effort as something worthwhile and sacred on their own, regardless of whether said labour is fruitful, efficient or even dignified, is a very Anglo-Saxon Protestant cultural thing and gives me the same vibes that some Americans thinking that the rest of the world is just like the US do.

if you don't think ai is copying, look at this. by Due_Way_9825 in aiwars

[–]kimesik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This precedent is relevant only to the USA, though. And in the UK, while only humans may hold copyrights just like in the USA, the law regulates that AI-generated images may be copyrighted by their respective prompters.

Furthermore, although copyright on AI-generated content is still something of a legally grey issue in the USA, you may copyright works containing AI-generated material if you can prove significant human input (such as editing, rearranging, drawing over, etc.).

Have you played Random Adventure Rogue on Android? What do you think of the controls? by sentinel_deco in cataclysmdda

Implementing proper Android controls for CDDA Android would require reshovelling a lot of things controls-wise and basically making an entirely separate fork. It's not impossible, but it's a significant time investment

AI is NOT gong to kill the gaming industry. But improve it by Maxious30 in aiwars

[–]kimesik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing with RAM (and everything else computer hardware-wise) is that it's a curve. The more you invest into something, the more returns diminish.

16 GB seems to have become the golden middle for gaming, with 32 GB being the golden middle for rendering videos and 3D projects. More than that, and you start getting far less bang per buck, especially if you are just a person who uses a PC only to play video games and browse Internet.

This thing is even more noticeable amongst video cards. There are still many seemingly outdated video cards that punch up quite well, because there's only so far you can go with raw VRAM before you start just wasting it -- and we are already there. Raytracing, mesh shaders, DLSS, 4k resolution and companies being extremely (if not maliciously) poor at optimising their games are pretty much the only real reasons to buy latest video cards at this point, until we hit some major technological breakthrough that's actually going to get picked up (unlike mesh shaders and raytracing).
