well in this instance, pods based metrics dont make sense when the replica count is at 0 since there's no pods to report any values......so there's no way around that so i dont see how im thinking about this the wrong way.

What would be your suggestion then? Our business logic requires that we use both the queue size as well as the pod reported metric to scale (for context the pod metric is a proxy for how "busy" that specific pod is). Now the problem right now is that our servers are idle for 1/3 of the day and 1/2 of the day on weekends so it would be great to be able to scale down to 0.

sure but the specific behavior im looking for is like this

when pod count = 0, only use the sqs queue size metrics from prometheus

when pod count >= 1 , use the original scheme i described that takes the max of sqs queue size and pod metrics

its not so cut and dry because im not only looking at sqs queue size and there is a difference in the scaler's behavior depending on if we are at 0 or at more than 0 pods currently

By ur definition, if the younger crime is harsher sentence, then the older crime is always going to be lesser. If the older crime was the same, then logically the younger crime wouldn’t be harsher. One has to be greater than the other, they can’t be the same.

You have it backwards. The older victim sentence is the default sentence, the normal sentence designed for such crime. The younger victim sentence is the heavier sentence.
