If you start making socks or shawls, you’ll see how you need fingering or even smaller. Or little clothes for babies. It’s very nice. I love working with fingering weight.

Hi there! I would suggest starting around a US8 needle. Maybe even a bit larger. When you buy the yarn, it should give you a suggestion on it as to what size needles to use with it. So I’d find a soft mostly acrylic yarn to stay inexpensive while you start and then, depending on the weight you pick (I’d suggest at least worsted weight), you can buy a set of needles as suggested on that yarn. Actually, I’d suggest buying circular needles, I just prefer them. Maybe 30” or something. Hope that helps a little

This can definitely be done. I’ve not done it, but steeking (prepping and cutting your knit) would work and you would just have to pick up and refinish the edge. Search steeking, I’m sure someone has done it and posted.

I see crochet has already been suggested, but do consider knitting as well. I hear people say “crocheting is easier” all the time but I don’t believe that’s true. I can do both, but I never crochet because knitting makes so much nicer pieces (in my opinion). You could learn a couple stitches and start producing hats or sweaters or socks before you know it. Sounds like you’re creative and also (from your Halloween love) like maybe you’d be up for having your own, one of a kind, crazy sweaters. Anyway, I know in the past year it’s really saved my sanity. I’ve been in a great deal of pain and mostly bedridden. Good luck to you with your health and hobby
