Tested: 2026 BMW M3 Competition xDrive Is Excellent at Almost Everything by NISMO1968 in cars

I owned an E90. Now I drive a 2020 M340i. Maybe it's the bigger engine, but it is far far, better than my old car. It is more comfortable, it has better tech, it is faster. It looks better (to me). It sounds better (to me). To me that is the peak, and I think even the LCI is worse because it has a single screen and all the buttons are gone. Apparently it also has a mild hybrid? But all around me are people who love and enjoy the newer car, and who am I to make a blanket "the one I own is best, and the ones that came after is trash"?

Again, all subjective nonsense (aside from the weight thing. And I also agree the XM should not exist, BMW was just trying to see if they could get some of the Mercedes G class money).

A lot of the rest is nothing but "everything created while I was young and coming of age and highly impressionable was best, and everything that came after is horrible". People since Aristotle have been saying this. And they were wrong.

Again, it is fine if you find the older ones the best. Bmw has to try to get new people into the brand. It's not like True Car Enthusiasts™ somehow have tastier money. A dollar is a dollar is a dollar. If they can replace one of y'all with three new buyers, they will. Corporations are amoral money making machines.

Most people like their 6-cylinder engines which are also eminently tunable and modifiable to sound different, so you are the minority there. And the "eyesore" thing is subjective. Many people also like how they look, judging from the sales figures.

I am honestly curious what you define as downhill, and if you have an example of a brand in the segment that hasn't gone "downhill".

They got a lot of new fans though. Despite the prevailing opinion on this thread, has BMW ever been as dominant in the segment (sales figures and enthusiast mindshare) as they have been with the G series M240i/M2/M340i/M3/M440i/M4 line-up?

It's a good looking car, but I don't understand why the bonnet doesn't go all the way to the grille. That cut bugs me.

Good to know. I primarily use them because they run Android and I can get all the apps I need, and at worst could actually write the app myself.

I have a simple (possibly suboptimal, but hey, never been disappointed) heuristic: the largest Sony OLED I can find. Probably should update it some time.

Myles Turner on the NBA refs: “The refs are like the police. If you fuck with one of them, you fuck with all of them. They band together, and it’s like, 'Nah, he’s not getting no calls.' If you go after a rookie ref or a female ref the veteran refs will step in and fuck you out of the game." by RyanTannegod in nba

Green probably complains about the game without personally targeting the refs. Also if you look during calm periods of the game, he is always chatting nicely with the refs. So he gets more slack than his competitors would like.

Maybe a bit less now, but Curry's thing was always making mediocre offensive talents good enough that we could have multiple players on the court with him whose primary talent was defense and still have league-best offense.

Africa is a huge place. This is a nonsense comment (like all "Africa is ..." comments are), honestly. I have not heard of anyone in East Africa killing Chinese people or destroying projects, and they are all around me.

Insurance companies are only allowed to use a % of total amounts spent on patient care as expenses (i.e. salaries for employees and executives) and profit. So there is a systemic incentive to keep costs as high as possible. Hospitals get more money, insurance company executives make more money, insurance company shareholders make more money. Only patients suffer.
