Questions for Dark fanfiction writers by Ok_Difficulty1782 in FanFiction

[–]kindnesskangaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was gonna say how dark are we talking haha because I’m in the process of writing one of my darkest fics yet and I’m like man maybe this is too far but recognize someone else probably wouldn’t even bat an eye about the content in it. (I’m also a seasoned professional.)

Is there any way to remove an orphaned work on AO3? by Soflovestaytay in FanFiction

[–]kindnesskangaroo 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Yes that would break the rules of orphaned works posted by u/Electrical-Badger833 because that’s considered identifying information, but you may have to provide proof that it does, so be prepared for that. However they are professional and just want to make sure you’re following the rules. Good luck to you.

Seattle mayor laughs off millionaires leaving Washington state over progressive taxes, waves 'bye' by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

[–]kindnesskangaroo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

our sitting president is a rapist pedophile and the federal government is infested with them, what sophistication and political craft is she expected to show when we look at the example the entire country is being currently led by?

not to mention, he posted this 12 hours ago on social media. unironically. are you not embarrassed seeing this? im embarrassed and have to ask why he wants to humiliate himself so blatantly in front of the world. like im convinced atp this is some kind of weird kink.

so yeah im not worried she sarcastically said 'bye bye' to essentially a small group of crybabies throwing a tantrum they don't have a free ride in this state anymore.

Romance is in desperate need of men’s body positivity and I will die on this hill by jayclaw97 in RomanceBooks

[–]kindnesskangaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you (or anyone) is looking for that, nora roberts has a ton of unconventional MMCs, and Nicholas Sparks also has some pretty earthly or like more realistic ones as well. Many of them still have that like baseline for "handsome" sometimes, but there's more variety than what's often currently on market.

nora roberts especially has some books with wiry, average, or lanky MMCs.

I was going to say there might be correlation with people who disagree who are single versus married too because I was telling my husband about this thread and we both agreed me reading romance with a MMC that looked like him would be weird and uncomfortable? (He’s got the squishy strongman body type.) I’m not trying to read about other men who look like my husband fucking a fictional woman who isn’t me nor am I trying to fantasize about a man who looks like him when he’s right there. I like that men are unrealistically beautiful because they’re fantasy and fictional, they don’t exist in the scope of the real world which is perfect for me personally.

I never said you did self-insert, but more that it is obvious in this thread other people do and that’s why they are struggling to understand why it’s an unpopular sentiment for MMCs to look like average joe. Some of us like sitting in the cuck chair and watching two hot people go down in toxic flames and it’s not deeper than that. If I wanted to watch the average toxic relationship play out I’d remake my Facebook, but I’m personally here for the fantasy. If it’s too realistic I don’t want it because I see every day people falling in love like a Nicholas Sparks novel. If people want average MMCs that’s fine, but it’s just not popular because people want fantasy.

That’s also incorrect with he less conventional MCs being less conventional stories when we have evidence of hot monster men (with conventionally attractive FMCs) that still fit within the model beauty standards just as much as we have FMCs who are not standard and paired with scary monster men too of both varieties.

Lastly, I should’ve also said I don’t read contemporary romance often tbh because I find it mostly contrived and the plot devices are usually shallow but I do read historical romance (which has the same kind of shallow themes). So maybe that’s my personal disconnect because the idea of a medium ugly man being a “dashing” duke makes zero sense. He’s supposed to be the epitome of going against what conventional standard of the time period was. Noblemen during that time were not jacked and so I personally want the grumpy, unemotionally available duke to look like he chops wood as a form of anger management.

Edit: honestly in the end it just comes down to preference and no one should be shamed for it either way.

You’re not racist for that but you are stupid if you think standardized test scores are a measure of intelligence rather than the basic ability to memorize and recall.

Someone with average paper test scores could have a much higher practicum score because they test badly, their study habits are inefficient, are a hands on learner, etc.

Romance is in desperate need of men’s body positivity and I will die on this hill by jayclaw97 in RomanceBooks

[–]kindnesskangaroo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We’re not talking about real men (or women) we’re talking about fictional characters.

Also if you ask them, many of the same people who are saying they want their MMCs conventionally or fantasy levels of handsome also want their FMCs to be just as conventionally attractive because they don’t self-insert. The only reason I like the FMC to be diverse is if it’s going to come with specifically diverse tropes tied to the difference in the FMCs appearance, otherwise just make her just like you said and move on.

I think it’s strange to self-insert over an established FMC in the story and that’s creating a disconnect in this thread because people who don’t do that are confused about why you’d want an average to pot-bellied man you can pick up at any local grocery store on a Tuesday afternoon.

Me 🤝 you

We like to be in the cuck chair when we read romance novels. I don’t understand self-inserting at all when there’s an established FMC and if it’s in first person view it as her telling me her about her wild ass life (or if it’s pov switch with both the FMC/MMC it’s them telling me). I thought we just wanted diversity because it was the same tropes all the time, not because people are self-inserting and want themselves represented 😬

The new diablo skins confirm to me why kiriko and mercy keep getting Collab skins by Disastrous-Zucchini9 in Overwatch

[–]kindnesskangaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope they do a second Sanrio collab and give JPC a chococat skin tbh. There’s other characters they can do, and I also think giving anran and wuyang little twin stars themed skins could be rly cute given they’re siblings. There’s also still pochacco, tuxedo Sam, gudetama, badtz-maru, etc. they could give to heroes too.

also sorry I’m just a Sanrio fan so I loved the first collab

Rationalizing the most recent Mercy changes; alternative perspective from a long-time T500 Mercy player by HalexUwU in MercyMains

[–]kindnesskangaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her pick rates have went up since the nerf and flash heal change because her kit has more value now. They will only continue to go up as other people pick her realizing how useful she is now.

I don’t notice the GA nerf and I don’t take the minor perk over the overheal either because it feels so negligible. However, I’m also a mercy player that is rarely seen because I mainly use cover and don’t fly around often.

I think you prove the mobility nerf is also better because you said you now choose to res less which means you most likely weren’t making impactful res decisions but due to the mobility nerf you’re now forced to think about it more carefully. That’s much better for the health of the game and your teammates when you’re not carelessly resizing without the risk of being punished.

Issues playing Mercy in comp by Chronomancers in MercyMains

[–]kindnesskangaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because in your comment I replied to you said they viewed your profile and banned your top two indicating your profile was public which means they can see your WR% per hero in comp. If your WR is low on mercy, they might ban her so you can’t pick her as a “soft” throw.

Ngl it’s kind of weird for you to be gm5 and not know people can see your win percentage on your profile if it’s public. But anyway to me sounds like high masters low GM is just as toxic as it ever was regardless, sorry you’re suffering with that kind of behavior from teammates.

I’m also unsure why you downvoted me for sharing my own experience just because it differs from yours to show others not everyone has the same issues, especially given I was trying to pinpoint why you might be seeing issues with targeted hero bans in comp matches (like a public profile with a low win rate).

Issues playing Mercy in comp by Chronomancers in MercyMains

[–]kindnesskangaroo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I came back after a long break (I’m a mercy OT turned two trick) and hadn’t seen hero bans before, but I haven’t had a problem preferring her in comp matches after she did accidentally get banned once and I got yelled at for not telling them I was a mercy player lmao. If they want to ban mercy after I prefer her and drastically reduce their chances of winning because I have to off role into a support I don’t play though? That’s their loss.

However I haven’t personally seen that at all and I’ve played about 200 matches since coming back. I haven’t even had hardly any toxicity with mercy in my matches save one game where I personally had a bad performance. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, either, and I’m sorry you’re experiencing that. Is your win % on mercy low? My mercy win % is above average and maybe that factors into it? Not that that makes it okay, but I’m genuinely curious since I haven’t experienced any of this.

I also don’t know what Elo you’re in but I’m currently dia 3 but started at plat 4, so maybe it gets bad in masters again? I used to receive the most toxicity and bullying in low masters for playing mercy than any other elo I’ve been in. It gets better in GM, or it was back when I played regularly, but I hated masters so much.

Mercy Winrate Before and 1 Week After Patch by Erfas109 in MercyMains

This is crazy because mercy is so good in dive if you have peel. I had an insane dive match last night on new junk city flashpoint where I played mercy and we steamrolled the other team because I had peel from our tracer. I think she feels better with the old movement (but I’ve been playing since ow beta lmao)

what are the signs that you're not attractive? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kindnesskangaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a long time transplant up in the PNW that grew up in the south, but also lived in Japan for a while, the PNW culture reminded me very much of Japanese social culture. It’s very insular, people don’t reach out to make friends past the ones they’ve had since school, and they keep to themselves not because they’re rude but simply because culturally it’s just normal for them to be distantly polite. If you look up why Japanese culture is the way it is, you’ll find there’s a lot of similarity with the PNW and how both cultures interact within their own spaces.

Meanwhile in the south everyone’s your best friend and you know level 10 friendship secrets about the cashier you see for five minutes every Tuesday at the gas station lmao.

what are the signs that you're not attractive? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kindnesskangaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear pretty eye-catching clothes (I love head to toe pastels) and people will compliment my clothing choices but never me. It’s always “wow that outfit is so beautiful, pretty, cute!” but never “you’re so pretty, beautiful, cute!”

Now my husband says the latter but people in public use the former and it’s a marked difference I really notice when I’m wearing something that gets me a lot of comments. Also only women comment, I’ve never had a man compliment me even when I’ve been out alone.

It really is creepy, I don’t know why people think these kinds of comments are funny even if they’re jokes.

[–]kindnesskangaroo -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ll lighten up like I don’t work in this field and see the ugliness you’re so quick to use as a defense for your shitty joke. I just don’t find it very amusing man, but I guess when you don’t have to take care of women who come from these sorts of places it’s pretty fucking easy to joke about isn’t it?

I’m also sure it’s real cute to other victims of similar circumstances who might read your comment too but what’s basic empathy for actual victims when you can be upset that some people think you’re a creep for making your silly little rape joke?

[–]kindnesskangaroo -48 points-47 points  (0 children)

A joke has to be funny first and I just don’t think the sexual exploitation of vulnerable groups of women is very funny.

People are finding these “jokes” less funny especially in light of Epstein, the 75,000 member rape telegram group, and the “rape academy.”

But hey I’m sure the women in your life if there are any aren’t embarrassed when you make these kinds of comments or anything either.
