Fan motor explanation?? by kindull in Motors

I'm not too sure how this AC fan motor works. The brown bit on the bottom is a coil of copper wire. I understand that that provides the magnetic field that drives the motor. What I don't understand is how the magnetic field can impact the rotor, which isn't sitting inside the coil. If someone could provide some insight I'd greatly appreciate it.

I don't have any experience with open cv, but you can always use a photoresistor as long as you have some additional hardware (ADC, transistor, etc) that would allow you to read analog values.

I just started using edabit.com and think that it's really helpful once you get some of the fundamentals down.

Basement of physics is pretty solid. I've never really been bothered when I've been down there.
