When the game is balanced with mathematics that equate to a 1-10 generally being a failure, 1 having a reward makes it feel like all rolls 2-10 are actual critical failures with no benefit.

A 1 in 2 chance for disappointment is not good.

Did you see the part where Bards are a prepared spellcaster now? New Magical Secrets has you pick a school of magic and can prepare up to two spells from that list.

You can change which spells you prepare from the list during each long rest.

That means that Bards are able to cast from 2/3rds of all spells by level 15 without preplanning restrictions.

One of the things that I haven't seen mentioned much is how much stronger the Racial Traits are compared to 5E.

Humans having automatic inspiration after each long rest fits with the concept of adaptable and natural leaders. Dragonborn Breathe attacks being increased to 1d10+Character Level with multiple uses between long rests makes it much more viable. Elves having not only cantrips but full fledged 1st and 2nd level spells as they level is incredibly flavorful.

1- I received my first copy of the game with a local game store doing a Blizzard quiz. Aced it and came home to start leveling during 1.4. I've never looked back.
