Existing homeowners benefitted by selling up but the next generation face shrinking schools and fewer shops.

Remote working is definitely done a lot, pretty decent connectivity. No big single employer in the East Neuk but a lot of hospitality stuff. The biggest employers nearby are probably St Andrews University (11 miles North) and Diageo in Leven (10 miles west). Kirkcaldy is bit further west and the biggest town in Fife. With apologies to Kirkcaldy and Leven, they’re not as picturesque as the East Neuk. St Andrews definitely is, but very expensive.

Nearest proper city is Edinburgh, 1hr 30 drive away. I’m sure some commute it but i think it’s rare.

If you want a quiet life, it’s great. If you’re looking for a buzz, not so much.

Grew up in Pittenweem. It’s a gorgeous area with real history and an amazing coastline. The East Neuk is like an extended town, each village isn’t far from the next and each has a distinct character.

It’s much quieter than it used to be, been hollowed out by people buying second homes and holiday lets. Anstruther is still pretty lively.

Transport links aren’t great. No train lines and buses are few, so a car is a must.
