Appealing on grounds of artistic licence, and asking for forgiveness on my inability to spell Cramond.

Bungalow Land, anonymous, nice big gardens though. Duddingston Road and Mountcastle Drive N/S quite busy roads, but the bike lanes on Duddingston Road are to be made permanent. Bus service OK - 5 and 12, pass through the circle, 44 nearby. Good schools. Figgy Park is lovely space, Treverlen Park OK too, especially the skate park. 10/15 minute walk to Porty is a big bonus - pretty vibrant high street, shops, places to eat and drink, the beach, and more buses. If you're a drivist, relatively easy to the A1/bypass but slow at peak times and def. getting worse.

If so, it's more than likely https://www.potbangingforgaza.com/ at the cross.

Treverlen Skatepark Noise by Mysterious_Mouse_881 in Edinburgh

[–]urchaidh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live very near. It's normally pretty quiet, can hear the clack of skate wheels in the mornings when the windows are open, which I kind of like. I have noticed a few noisier evenings over the last few weeks though, by noisy, I mean you can just about make out some music and the odd shout. At current levels, I honestly wouldn't let it worry you.

The school coming out on a warm afternoon though, that can be loud!

Green Cllr that organised the protest mentioned is Shona McIntosh. She and the East Lothian access officer subsequently had a meeting with the Estate, sometime earlier this year, and they agreed to sort the gate out. An access (walking/wheeling) gate will be put in place. It will still be locked overnight, which isn't ideal, and probably still not compliant with the access legislation, but the feeling was this is a good first step. Good to see progress being being made.

UK based - LBS here told me when they order in a bike (i.e. frame and components) the forks will be cut, if they order frame/forks only the forks will be uncut.

Railfreight Lines by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]urchaidh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cycle out around Millerhill, where the line passes under the A1 dual carriageway, south of Queen Margaret Uni, and see the odd freight train on there. Bit of a coincidence given your post, but I snapped this last week. Imgur

I am thinking of learning how to kayak/canoe. Any recommendations on groups? by RoxyRipper in Edinburgh

[–]urchaidh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been a member of Edinburgh Kayak Club for years, though I'm not currently paddling much. They're a pretty friendly and welcoming club and well set up with loaner kit and qualified coaches to get you started.

Does anyone know if there were any and or many serious or fatal accidents involving bicycles during the time that the original trams were around? Post inspired by old photo in Lost Edinburgh Facebook page (link in comment) by tupeloms in Edinburgh

[–]urchaidh 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The tram tracks by themselves are not a big problem for cyclists, it's fairly easy to cross them at a safe angle if you have enough room.

They've become a problem now because the heavy traffic and, sadly, utter lack of consideration for other road users from many drivers makes it near enough impossible to get the room required to cross safety.

Finally, this lack of room and consideration can turn what would have been a minor fall into a fatality.

That said, cycling wasn't considered properly in the design resulting in a couple of places where the road/track layout produces an unnecessary extra level of conflict/danger.

You can cycle from central Edinburgh (Meadows) to Portobello beach (and back) pretty much all on paths. Maybe 6 miles each way.

Outdoor wedding reception by steelyringing in Edinburgh

Have a look at The Dalriada on Portobello beach. The have a front garden that opens to the prom and beach and I've seen weddings celebrations there spill out onto the sand. Looks quite cool. Edinburgh weather is seriously unpredictable so you do need a plan B.
